The career you want.
As a Product Developer, the successful incumbent will manage the product development process of assigned private brand categories from concept to product launch and develops a comprehensive product line while maintaining the vision and direction of the brand.
Research and identify new emerging market trends to continually develop a full product assortment within assigned categories, while maintaining brand focus.
Analyze features, pricing and competitiveness in the marketplace and apply learnings to product line.
Continuously monitor sales and review current assortments to ensure product lines meet assigned private label sales and margin targets.
Identify new product opportunities and recommend improvements and updates to the line.
Generate and communicate all product sourcing requests to sourcing agents including : pricing targets, technical specifications, cosmetic details, estimated initial and annual purchasing quantities, target minimum order quantities, target ship date and packaging specifications.
Identify opportunities to leverage orders and consolidate vendor base to ensure best price scenarios.
Manage and track all sourcing, product development, manufacturing and shipping critical path milestones to ensure on-time delivery.
Standardize and direct the design of packaging with the graphic team to create the most saleable packaging taking into consideration environmental aspects as well as the brand image, and product line consistency.
Write copy for packaging and web group, edit owner’s manuals, facilitate product evaluation, development and re-engineering, ensure products meet all certification, licensing and quality standards.
Work with visual merchandising department regarding appropriate sizing, merchandising and presentation of products within assigned categories.
Drive communication with internal departments Imports, Supply Chain, Product Evaluation, Graphic Design and Marketing.
Communicate with marketing department to ensure product lines are supported with promotional messages, flyer activity, and media coverage.
Work closely with the Supply Chain group to maintain and control inventory levels of products in order to meet projected sales, profit and private label blend targets to meet advertised deadlines.
Maintain and update reports as per established timelines; distribute to other parties where applicable.
Identify product successes and failures and look for areas of improvement or for future development.
Contribute to category strategies and product line reviews. Utilize analytics, customer feedback to continuously improve PL products.
In conjunction with the Buyer, develop and present the annual private label strategy for each product category.
Follow published policies related to health and safety rules specific to the workplace as provided by Senior Management.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Skills we’re looking for.
Minimum 3 years of experience in a product development or merchandising role.
Project Management skills are a must.
Private Brand / Private Label experience
College or university degree in a related field (design, marketing, business).
Previous experience in a retail or retail support environment is necessary. Incumbent must possess the ability to understand current market trends and fashion and incorporate into product development.
Strong communication, time management skills are required. Strong analytical, problem solving, negotiation and decision making skills.
The ability to meet deadlines, while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced, dynamic and demanding environment is critical.
Must be familiar with product regulatory standards and advertising legislation and guidelines.
