Rogers Communications, Media Business Unit is seeking a Broadcast Technician to join our Broadcast Engineering Team in Kingston, Ontario.

The Engineering Team is responsible for the technical support of our 19 radio stations located in Ottawa, Kingston, Timmins, North Bay, Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury and Halifax.

Reporting to the Regional Director of Engineering, this position will be primarily responsible for the Kingston Radio Operations which include Country 93.

5, 105.7 K-Rock and KISS 102.7. The broadcast technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all aspects of the radio stations technical operations from the radio automation computer systems to the control room and transmitter equipment.

As part of our team the successful candidate will work mainly out of Kingston with occasional travel to the other markets as required.

Responsibilities :

  • Maintenance, repair and installation of audio and transmission equipment (AM up to 50,000 watts and FM up to 20,000 watts).
  • Maintenance of radio / audio related computer equipment and associated servers, and networks.
  • Develop studio and transmitter projects in conjunction with Regional Director of Engineering.
  • Develop and maintain engineering dept. records and drawings using Visio and Excel.
  • Maintain stock for engineering parts and supplies.
  • Liaise with other departments on technical matters.
  • Assist with technical requirements for remote broadcasts.
  • Some minor building maintenance.
  • 24 / 7 On-Call response to emergencies.
  • Qualifications :

  • Travel required to assist other markets as needed.
  • Graduate of recognized Broadcast Technician, Electronics Technician or Technologist program.
  • Knowledge and experience with FM transmission systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with AM transmission systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with WideOrbit digital audio automation systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with Axia Livewire or Wheatnet Audio systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer hardware, software and Local Area Networks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal support as part of a cooperative team in a fast paced environment.
  • Proactive in maintenance and repair of studio and transmitter equipment.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and soldering.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to see projects and tasks through to completion.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate experience, aptitude or interest in audio-related disciplines.
  • The successful candidate will hold a valid Ontario G driver’s license.
