MARKETS :

Bimbo Canada serves major grocery chains, retail outlets and foodservice operations across Canada. The company distributes branded products in the discount, mainstream and super-

premium segments, and is the leading producer in most major bakery categories. It also produces private label products for grocery and foodservice outlet.

Position Summary :

Responsible for identifying and implementing engineering solutions to meet the financial and quality objectives of the Company including capital project management and process improvement initiatives.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES : Engineering

Engineering

  • Develops, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, and execution of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility.
  • Ensures the application of all legislative requirements and the appropriate company policies in all areas of capital project execution and technical service.
  • Maintain an awareness of the technical developments in the project execution and construction practices in the food industry.
  • Participate in the development of best standard practices in capital project execution.
  • Develop knowledge in Lean Six Sigma and apply Lean principles and methodologies to the execution of their duties.
  • Provide input to energy reduction initiatives, environmental services and the capital investments to address issues or opportunities.
  • Facility Operations

  • Work with Plant / Facility Managers, Process Owners and Reliability Teams to identify, organize and plan capital projects.
  • Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods, and controls to enhance financial and quality performance.
  • Ensures that physical condition of facilities meet internal standards and Building Code compliance.
  • Financial

  • Works with Plant / Facility Managers in the preparation of capital and maintenance budgets.
  • Safety / Environmental

  • Supports Plant and Corporate staff in developing engineering solutions to EH & S non-compliances.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION :

  • 3-5 years of Engineering and Project Management experience in Food Processing environment.
  • Engineering degree required combined with experience in capital project management, new plant construction and plant retrofitting.
  • Professional Engineering Association membership preferred
  • PMP designation an asset
  • REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE :

  • Knowledge of food industry GMPs, food safety development and health & safety requirements.
  • Proven experience and performance in the management of capital projects, execution and successful management of consultants and contractors.
  • Knowledge of construction site practices and regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of contract development and execution
  • Knowledge of WSIB / WCB and insurance requirements and their management on construction sites
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills at all levels.
