Our client is a medical devices company developing a leading edge technology to provide solutions and tools that aid medical practitioners.

They are in the process of commercialization of this technology and with this they are seeking for their Engineering Manager to lead a team of hardware, firmware, systems and test engineers in executing engineering activities from design and development to production.

The ideal candidate will come with engineering leadership experience, preferably in developing medical devices or related electro-

mechanical devices. The candidate will come from primarily an electrical, software / firmware engineering background; secondarily from a mechanical / electro-

mechanical background. P. Eng registration and a PhD degree is an asset. Combined with the strong technical background, the candidate must have excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal and team building and development skills.

The company is well organized with successful ownership and leadership group that have developed and commercialized proven and successful medical devices.

The team is very strong from senior leadership down to the engineers, clinicians and business and operations experts. They have a small tight-

knit group that are great at what they do. The successful Director of engineering will have a really good team to lead and a solid group of managers and support staff to work with.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to a team of systems, hardware, firmware, software and testing engineers
  • Managing resources, tasks, timelines executing engineering activities from development to production
  • Manage relations with internal / external stakeholders completing projects
  • Manage key activities such as risk management, systems engineering, hardware, firmware, software and test engineering
  • Set and achieve engineering milestones
  • Ensure product functionality and performance and compliance to regulatory and statutory requirement
  • Qualifications

  • Engineering Management experience developing medical devices or related electro-mechanical devices
  • Electrical Engineering / Software / Firmware Engineering background; Having a P. Eng and / or PhD an asset
  • Experience with SW / HW development for medical devices
  • Experience with sensor / signal processing
  • Experience with algorithm development
  • Familiarity with medical device standards and required regulatory approvals
  • Strong project management experience managing from development to commercialization
  • Strong leadership, organization, team and people development and mentorship skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills
  • Experience with design tools e.g Xilinix &Altera FPGA Design Suites, Pspice, Matlab, Altium, Pads Logic / Layout
  • Familiar with drafting tools such as CAD, SolidWorks
