Role Description

Given the scope of this role, the position may be available in either London, Toronto, or Winnipeg.

Accountabilities :

  • Providing AML / ATF expertise to all lines of business within the organization;
  • Supporting the management of AML / ATF screening controls by overseeing staff, systems and processes as required to meet legislative and regulatory requirements pertaining to sanctions, terrorists and politically exposed persons;
  • Reviewing and enhancing controls to identify AML / ATF risks or confirm practices in our companies in response to internal or external issues, new laws, or regulatory positions and guidelines;
  • Reviewing and enhancing processes used to identify, assess and report suspicious transactions, suspicious attempted transactions, large cash transactions and other reportable matters pursuant to legislative and regulatory requirements;
  • Participating in regulatory update reviews and provide constructive input into emerging rules and regulations by researching legislation and policy interpretations to proactively provide appropriate guidance to internal business units on potential impacts;
  • Supporting the Manager, Corporate Compliance by identifying issues and opportunities for enhancement to AML / ATF methodologies, policies and procedures and recommending changes or new practices;
  • Providing AML expertise as a consultant, reviewing or actively participating in projects with IS and business teams where new initiatives or systems / processes are being considered or implemented;
  • Updating the GRC System to include any applicable changes in AML laws and supporting communication to affected business units;
  • Supporting the annual self-assessment of AML / ATF controls used in corporate operations, reporting on results and recommending actions to be undertaken to address any gaps identified;
  • Supporting board and regulatory reporting related to AML / ATF activities, including the preparation of an annual report on AML / ATF activities across the enterprise;
  • Supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of an inherent risk assessment process for the identification of money laundering / terrorist financing risks;
  • Supporting the development of documentation and maintenance of AML / ATF and sanctions training programs and procedures;
  • Oversee and manage annual compliance attestations.
  • Qualifications and Competencies :

  • University education in law, finance or other relevant degree. Current AML / ATF certification (e.g., CAMS) is an asset;
  • Progressive experience demonstrating expertise as an AML / ATF professional and leader able to oversee the development and performance of AML / ATF professionals;
  • Demonstrated ability to understand regulatory requirements and apply that knowledge to enhance methodologies, processes, and controls within the insurance or financial industry;
  • Experience demonstrating a strong ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders building successful professional relationships and networks;
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively self-manage, prioritize, stay organized and use technology as a productivity tool;
  • Previous responsibility and success in effective decision making;
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, demonstrating adaptability to needs of a specific audience (entry level to senior management);
  • A desire to constantly learn, adapt to change and help others adapt to change.
