What is the opportunity?

As a solution architect in the Core Banking and Systems Modernization team you will partner across IT and multiple business line(s) to analyze business and technical needs and develop end to end solutions that address business objectives while balancing delivery and technology risk with alignment with our strategic P&CB target architecture.

What will you do?

This position will play a key role in delivering our business and technology objectives in the Personal and Commercial Banking (P&CB) technologies domain supporting one or more of the following domains : deposits, retail investments, client data, debit cards and ATM / Point of Sale middleware.

  • You will collaborate with senior architects to develop and maintain architecture strategy and technical roadmaps and drive test and learn of emerging technology products and identify core modernization opportunities
  • You will work with multiple agile labs and facilitate the resolution of architecture decisions and guide teams through pivots in direction
  • You will develop end-to-end solution architectures and author important architecture decisions (ADs) ensuring thorough reviews by all stakeholders.
  • You will organize and lead the review of solutions and ADs through all levels of architecture governance including local, P&CB and when required Enterprise Architecture forums.

  • You will manage your architecture deliverables and artefacts using common tools such as Jira and Confluence and actively share and collaborate promoting design thinking and innovative approaches to solution architecture
  • You will develop and apply common solution design patterns for micro services including : Restful API interfaces, logical domain models, data caching, business events and security integration
  • You will facilitate and champion dev ops and automation practices within our development labs and develop cloud solutions using PCF, OpenShift, Kubernetes.
  • You will develop solutions that leverage event based architectures using technologies such as Kafka, MQ Series and multiple application development frameworks
  • You will collaborate with senior architects to manage overall technology currency, lifecycle and health of the application portfolio supporting a domain and develop heat map views to inform investment decisions.
  • What do you need to succeed?


  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in IT
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical, consultative, and team facilitative skills
  • Knowledge, experience, and understanding of architecture, application development, application systems design and technology integration, problem solving, expressing architecture patterns and defining complex solution architectures
  • Capability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with global architecture areas, Application Development, T&O management, RBC business groups, Global Technology Infrastructure, and others
  • Experience in Cloud Computing and Public Cloud Platforms : Pivotal Cloud Foundry, OpenShift, Kubernetes
  • Nice-to-have

  • Experience with data architecture and data modeling and database technologies such as relational, non-structured, document based
  • Experience in APIs, Micro services and Event Based Architectures, Rest, Redis, ElasticSearch
  • Experience in mainframe technologies is desired : MQ Series, COBOL, IMS, DB2
  • Experience leading and / or working with technical squads using Agile Methodology
