The Department of Community and Social Services leads income, employment, disabilities and community-based supports, family violence prevention, and family & community support services

Role Reporting to the Regional Director, Disability Services - Central Region, and as a member of the leadership team, you will provide leadership by promoting innovative and collaborative approaches and best practices in supporting Albertans with disabilities in the Central Region who are eligible for PDD / FSCD.

This includes analyzing and proposing solutions to barriers and challenges for individuals accessing complex supports and transitioning to other services.

To ensure success, you will need to work collaboratively with a team of managers and professionals to strategically plan and coordinate the development of specialized programs, services and initiatives to support individuals with complex needs.

You will require strong communication, negotiation and collaboration skills to work with a variety of stakeholders in an integrated / client centered approach.

This integrated approach will be individualized and focus on long-term success and safety. This will be complemented by leading and working in partnership with a diverse group of stakeholders to proactively develop a continuum of housing and services to individuals with complex support needs.

You key accountabilities include :

  • Lead and provide direction to staff and stakeholders to consider innovative approaches to meet the needs of Albertans with disabilities
  • Lead for regional projects / initiatives
  • Lead and provide direction to the Central Region's complex support team (COMPASS). This collaborative, multi-disciplinary team with Alberta Health Services and Community and Social Services staff, is focussed on building regional capacity, as well as informing Ministry / Cross Regional initiatives, for supporting individuals with complex service needs
  • Provide specialized knowledge and skills to support Albertans with complex service needs. This requires a strong partnership with Alberta Health Services, OPGT, Justice and the service deliver sector to ensure appropriate supports are in place and strategies are successfully executed
  • Create, support and sustain an environment that enables staff to achieve results. This includes defining and developing organizational capacity (internally and externally) for the future
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of business planning, accountability processes and performance management framework is essential.
  • This position will also support critical issues management activities for the Regional Director

    To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong people leadership skills in order to build a collaborative environment and support a diverse team of professionals.

    You will ensure the development of their skills through a strengths based approach. Success will be achieved by the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships and networks.

    Superior time management and organizational skills are required to effectively prioritize multiple diverse and complex projects and assignments.

    In-depth knowledge and understanding of business planning, quality assurance / continuous improvement and the performance management framework is essential.

    Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by four years of progressively responsible related experience.
  • Related experience or education maybe considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis

  • Experience delivering a full range programs supporting adults with developmental disabilities with very complex needs is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with communities and families is essential. Previous supervisory / management experience is preferred.

    Experience in community development is considered an asset. Strong computer skills are required

    Salary $3,352.75 to $4,574.56 bi weekly

    Notes This is a permanent position located in Red Deer.

  • Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Ministry. Travel is a requirement of this position;
  • therefore, the successful candidate must have a valid Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.

    The Health Professions Act requires that the successful applicant who possesses a BSW, MSW or Diploma in Social Work be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers prior to being employed.

    Managers are expected to participate on an after-hours on-call rotation.

    Successful candidates will undergo pre-employment security screening. In order to expedite this process, please be prepared to present a recent (completed within the last 6 months) Criminal Records Check at the time of the interview.
