Our client has global operations, they've grown over the years, they are over a billion dollars in revenue, and have received a number of awards! They have an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Procurement Manager in Moose Jaw, SK ! This role requires an individual with procurement experience and management experience, specifically in the grain or pulses industry.

This role will develop and implement effective purchasing strategies across the country that ensures long-term relationships, growth of the grower base and successful procurement.

What makes the role exciting and what does it involve?

Purchasing & Domestic Sales

Manage a purchasing team and work with the Canadian and global trade teams to develop a grain procurement strategy that generates profits and volumes in that order

Lead weekly purchase meetings

Monitor and communicate positions of each commodity, including plant inventories

Review purchasing and market reports and provide regular price recommendations

Set performance targets for the buyers in Moose Jaw and Innisfail plants and check their progress against these targets

Circulate the daily price indications sheet to overseas offices and ensuring that the pricing reflected is competitive with the market

Participate in the weekly trade calls providing as much market intelligence to help substantiate trade decisions taken and where the opportunities and risks are

Ensure that a profitable procurement book is being run from all the plants and to ensure that this procurement operates within the position limits as covered in the risk management policy

Work closely with seed growers and traders to develop the seed programs for the company

Execution & Quality Control

Ensure the contracting process is solid and contract terms are properly reviewed

Ensure contracts are all fully executed and that the interests of the company is protected, while maintaining contractual transparency

Liaise with finance to ensure that grower payment is properly factored in the cashflow forecasts, settlement issues are addressed timely

Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure all grower and buyer contractual periods are being observed

Work with traders, buyers and GM's on quality claim traceability

Market Development & Marketing

Grow the grower base and manage grower relation.

Identify new commodity and producer stick opportunities.

Create and implement an annual grower engagement strategy and budget encompassing trade shows and missions, targeted text blasts, social media campaigns, marketing campaigns and any other advertising mediums while ensuring all possible funding is obtained where possible.

Keeping the growers updated on the progress that the company is making in markets outside of Canada

Travel to one plant per week and making your way to all the plants within the company at least once a year

What are we looking for?

  • Previous experience as a Procurement Manager, Assistant Procurement Manager, Procurement Lead or Procurement Supervisor required
  • Knowledge of grains or pulses industry required
  • Proven ability to build strong customer relations and excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Outlook, and Excel.
