In this dynamic, fast-paced environment, the R&D Lab Tech (LT1) is responsible for providing support for new product validation testing, production assembly verification, prototype builds, field return analysis & competitive benchmarking of high quality, cost-

effective fireplace products. This position also works with the Engineering Development team to establish products’ thermal performance while maintaining safe operating temperatures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain professionalism and act in a manner consistent with FPI mission and guiding principles.
  • Follow all Health & Safety programs; actively participate in Health & Safety training with the purpose of gaining knowledge and understanding
  • Contribute to a positive work environment focusing on Lean and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Look for new ways to improve safety, quality and productivity
  • Ensure workplace is organized and tidy
  • Conform to internal procedures & policies, and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Plan, organize, and conduct testing to validate product design requirements
  • Provide written technical reports as required
  • Assist in benchmarking competitors’ products and maintaining a reference library
  • Assist with field return analyses & root cause investigations as required
  • Other related duties as required
  • Abilities / Skills / Knowledge

  • Intermediate knowledge of sheet metal theory / construction
  • Demonstrated ability to convert theory into working models
  • A strong understanding of applicable fireplace test standards & documentation is an asset
  • A strong understanding of jigs and fixtures design
  • Carpentry skills, including proficiency with hand tools
  • Mechanical aptitude; with an ability to make / modify parts for test models
  • Excellent communications skills (written / verbal) in English
  • Education / Training

  • Engineering Technologist Diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience

  • Minimum 1 - 2 years testing experience required; preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience with reliability testing techniques / methods
  • Hours of Work

    Mon - Thurs 7 : 00 - 4 : 00, Fri 7 : 00 - 1 : 30
