The External Communications Lead will provide critical support for various company-wide initiatives to protect corporate reputation and advance key business priorities.
Managing the day-to-day workflow of the External Communications team, the Lead will provide strategic counsel and communications support regarding issues and opportunities facing the business.
The Lead will report to the Director of External Communications.
Develop and manage communications for external audiences
Acting as a company spokesperson, manage and respond to media and social media activity as it relates to day-to-day operations, including support for stores and distribution centres nationally
Support and manage key initiatives within the External Communications Strategy, including planning, program development and execution
Support the development of the External Communications Strategy in collaboration with the Director, External Communications and key functional stakeholders
Provide oversight on communications outreach to key external audiences including customers, government and stakeholders
Partner with functional areas of the business to support key strategic priorities, including consumer PR through Marketing
Support crisis and issues management to protect corporate brand and reputation
Lead the creative development, writing and production of external communication materials, including news content, speeches, presentations and corporate videos
Manage issues and support Customer Care in responding to customer questions and stakeholder requests
Manage related budgets as required
Ability to act quickly and multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
Superior research, writing and editing skills
Understands and aligns with corporate tone and voice
Self-starter with strong intrapersonal skills and an ability to work across all levels in an organization
Confident on-camera media spokesperson
Solid team player with expertise in developing and implementing proactive media relations and integrated external communications plans
Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills
Familiarity with social media tools / new technology
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Post secondary degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field
Minimum of 5 years previous communications experience preferably in media relations and issues management
Experience writing for varying mediums, and delivering key messages through a variety of communication methods and outlets
On-camera media spokesperson experience
Bilingual French / English preferred
