Metlakatla First Nation has an immediate opening for a temporary full-time Finance Clerk. As a member of the finance team, you will be responsible for managing Metlakatla First Nation’s accounts payable, accurately completing payroll with all requisite deductions, and maintaining appropriate financial documentation through an organized system of filing.

Note : This is a full-time 14-months maternity coverage position.

General Responsibilities :

  • Prepare weekly or biweekly deposits of cheques and cash;
  • Reconcile & prepare health benefits payments, pension plan payments, PD7A, T5008 and T4 reports for CFO review;
  • Open new accounting codes when required in the Finance System;
  • Ensure that the accounts receivable / payable subledgers reconcile to the general ledger;
  • Perform all reconciliations monthly and maintain a copy as supporting documentation;
  • Photocopy invoices / purchases of Tangible Capital Assets at year-end and file copies for year-end reference;
  • Maintain monthly tracking system for invoicing and assign collections to the Administration Clerk;
  • Maintain permanent files (does not archive) for T4, T5008, GST, PD7A (payroll), Insurance, Health Benefits, Pension Plan, Vendor contracts, Lease / Rental agreements;
  • Review payables prepared by the Data Entry clerk before posting to verify mathematical accuracy, proper account codes, authorized signatures, authorized spending limits according to Finance Policy and supporting documentation such as purchase orders or travel itineraries;
  • Prepare payroll in Paydirt and submit to CFO and ED for approval;
  • Prepare bank deposit slips and deposit to bank using E-Cheque Scanner;
  • Perform other tasks within the scope of the position.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Enrolment or eligible to enrol in a Business Administration or Commerce Diploma Program or a professional accounting program.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel, Adagio and Financial Reporter.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • High level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects.
  • Open to learning and be being part of a dynamic team.
