DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

On behalf of BCI’s clients, the Infrastructure & Renewable Resources team invests globally in companies that offer exposure to infrastructure assets that provide stable long-term results with minimal substitution risk.

These include investments in sectors such as water, electricity, gas, and transport infrastructure as well as tangible assets in the natural resources space such as timberland and agriculture.

The team invests in a variety of capacities including as a sole sponsor, co-sponsor, or co-investor and very selectively through externally managed funds.

In these capacities, the team seeks to take an active oversight role built on a foundation of trusted relationships with all stakeholders and a commitment to long-term value creation.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Analyst is part of the Portfolio Management & Insights team and reports to the Senior Principal. The Analyst contributes to protecting, growing, and realizing the value of the portfolio by : 1) analyzing and providing investment recommendations in respect to the Group’s FX hedging activities (currently CAD$9.

  • 5 billion); 2) identifying or implementing enterprise risk and mitigation strategies and optimizing processes and workflows;
  • 3) providing support for portfolio monitoring and analytics; and 4) assisting with client reporting, presentations, and data requirements.

    The position also works on many ad hoc portfolio projects that require detailed analysis and a good understanding of financial and investment markets.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate university degree and / or MBA with emphasis in finance and investment analysis
  • 2 to 4 years’ experience, ideally in investment management (preference for institutional investment experience), infrastructure, private equity, investment banking, or management consulting
  • Holding or working towards completion of a relevant professional designation (CPA, CFA, or CBV)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Fluency with a broad range of computer applications (Microsoft Office, Tableau)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Diplomatic, tactful, and strong interpersonal skills
  • PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares or supports monthly foreign currency analytics and / or reporting and conducts the analysis of the Infrastructure & Renewable Resources hedging program and provides investment recommendations to the Executive Vice President (EVP)
  • Monitors current investment progress at the program level
  • Participates in discussions with Infrastructure & Renewable Resources, other departments in BCI and institutional peers on risk management, compliance requirements, and reporting framework over investment risk, enterprise risk, legal, tax, and ESG matters
  • Identifies or implements IT systems, solutions, and reporting analytics to support the Group’s investment activities
  • Liaises with other teams on the valuation process, participate in related discussions and provide support as necessary
  • Analyzes Key Performance Indicators collected from our direct investments and liaises with external senior management on the accuracy and completeness of data
  • Works with the Infrastructure & Renewable Resources team to support initiatives to streamline workflow, processes, and reporting
  • Prepares annual program review materials, client presentation materials, and quarterly / annual reports
  • Prepares periodic return calculations and analyzes return drivers, program exposure, external management fees, and internal management fees
  • Participates in special projects as directed by the EVP or Senior Principal
