Stuart Olson Construction Ltd. is seeking Journeyman Carpenters for all general carpentry duties required on civil infrastructure and industrial construction projects.

We are looking for individuals who have a keen interest in being a part of a rapidly growing civil team that prioritizes construction by safety first, quality and profitability.

This position is located in the Lower Mainland with client sites in the Fraser Valley, Langley, Vancouver, Richmond and Coquitlam areas.

Working Conditions

Working in and around heavy equipment

Hazard awareness

Work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Personal Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses / goggles, etc.
  • Responsibilities

    Prepare, erect and remove structural framework for concrete foundations, walls, columns, beams and shafts.

    Erect scaffold and related support.

    Set and strip / remove forms.

    Operate hand tools, power actuated tools as required to perform tasks including inspection.

    Participate in weekly safety meetings and daily tool box talks.

    Advise supervision of unsafe conditions or acts that may be a hazard or danger to self and other workers.

    Read blueprints and / or getting instructions from supervision.

    Prepare layout including selecting materials, planning sequences and methods of work.

    Ensure work areas are kept clean and free of hazards.

    Ensure tools and equipment are returned to job boxes and tool cribs.

    Report all incidents, near miss incidents including damages / non-damage, injury / non-injury incidents.

    Review and participate in the preparation of safe work practices / procedures as required.

    Follow instructions of the Superintendents / Foreman.

    Other tasks and labor duties as required on the job site.

    Qualifications

    Journeyman Carpenter ticket preferred

    Non-ticketed equivalent with proof of hours and experience from a related trade

    Experience in civil infrastructure construction, such as bridges, dams, water and wastewater treatment plants

    Willing to join the CLAC Union

    Valid driver’s licence

    Ability to take direction and follow through on instructions

    Positive attitude to safety

    Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude

    Superior written and verbal communication skills

    Physical Requirements

    Stand or walk for long periods of time

    Ability to stand, crouch, and kneel for long periods of time

    Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50lbs.; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50lbs. with assistance

    Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects

    Exposure to hazards such as heights, power tools, slips, falls, falling objects, and sharp hand tools

    Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects

  • Compensation and Benefits

    Compensation is commensurate with experience, quality and production capabilities and is above industry average

    Overtime is compensated per the CLAC collective agreement
