The product specialist will provide product quality technical support to the mill operations in areas involving production order setup, quality and inspection planning associated with production orders, routine product capability analysis and product development support.
This person is responsible for ensuring that customer expectations are translated to production order requirements, inspection and test plans are reflective of customer and industry requirements, and that the operations team understands our resulting product performance KPI’s (first pass yield, rework rate, downgrade rate, etc.).
The product specialist is responsible for identifying and tracking the critical product parameters which correspond to making a quality product and routinely providing capability data when opportunities for improvement exist.
During product improvement activities, the Product Specialist may lead root cause assessment, process mapping, fishboning, trial planning as the teams work toward improvement solutions.
Written summaries of the key findings and recommendations is also an important aspect of the work. Collaboration with EVRAZ colleagues (union and management) both within the mill as well as outside subject matter experts will be needed in order to most effectively address issues and implement improvements.
Setup Quality Control inspection and product testing plans for orders
Conduct routine product capability analyses to evaluate product performance compared to customer requirements
Review product and quality control data in advance of releasing product for shipment
Monitor and trend daily / weekly key product quality metrics (first pass yield, rework rate, downgrade rate, etc.) and communicate issues to mill management
Participate / Lead product development trials with operations and research personnel.
Work with Quality Assurance to develop / review / revise procedures, work instructions, data sheets, specification sheets etc.
Lead brainstorming sessions (A3, fishbone, 4 square and FMEA types) with operations and quality personnel during product improvement efforts to identify the key factors that must be improved to have better product capability
frequency of measurement, bracketing plan, etc.)
Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering or equivalent experience
3 years’ experience working in a quality assurance or Engineering team, preferred
Familiar with International Standards Organization(ISO) Quality standards and Quality Management Systems including quality control planning for new products
Demonstrated experience using MS Excel or Minitab to analyze numerical data and draw conclusions
Proficient in MS Office tools MS Word, and PowerPoint
Good verbal and written communication skills
Experience writing technical reports and giving presentations summarizing key findings, and identifying next steps
Experience working with teams at various levels of management to accomplish tasks
Knowledge of steel mill processes and operations preferred
Knowledge of industry standards including American Petroleum Institute, Canadian Standards Association, and ASTM preferred
Six Sigma green belt qualification preferred
