The role

As a Commission and Reporting Analyst, you will be accountable for Sales and Channel Partner compensation administration.

This person will be responsible for financial reporting and collaborating with various Operations and Sales teams, Corporate Payroll, Accounting, and IT.

The role requires frequent interactions with stakeholders and has a high expectation of timeliness and accuracy of deliverables.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities :

  • Prepare monthly commissions for Sales Representatives and Channel Partners for Payroll and Accounts Payable departments
  • oActively participate and contribute to process improvement projects

  • Audit, prepare, and report variances for booked vs. billed revenue for commission payouts
  • oAdminister annual commission plans and make recommendations as required

    oPrepare and issue financial reports monthly and as required

    oReconciliation of claims for payment

    oVarious other duties as required.

    A typical day

    This team serves the organizations of two Sales VPs and is responsible for administering 16 different compensation plans, varying in complexity and volume.

    There are several sales channels involved and this role is closest to seeing what revenue will be coming into Shaw Business in near future.

    Over time, the needs of Shaw Business have evolved, and the size of the teams has grown. As a result, the Business Sales Compensation team is slowly transforming operational processes and a fair degree of flexibility and initiative is always required of the team.

    Over half the month, we run through different phases of the compensation cycle while in slower cycles, we run our special projects, audits, and housekeeping tasks.

    You will get to interact with our data team, who dresses up transactional information before it is passed to our team for review.

    You will also work closely with sales leaders as we go through statement review phase. We also join forces with our partners in HR, Business Development, Product Management and Sales Learning on various aspects to drive the business forward.

    A keen desire to automate processes and templates will bring more value to this job. There are learning opportunities available in areas of Alteryx and Tableau as we increasingly rely on those platforms for our monthly tasks.

    Your skills / experience

  • High level of proficiency with Excel is required. Familiarity with nested functions (including but not limited to VLOOKUPs, conditional loops, exception handling, etc.
  • is necessary to enable analysis on large volumes of data. Experience in writing and updating macros is an asset to help with low value, repetitive tasks.

  • 2-3 years’ experience in a role dealing with large volumes of data and analysis. A previous sales compensation experience would be an asset.
  • Experience with Salesforce, billing systems, Cloud platforms, Alteryx, and Tableau would be an asset.
  • High degree of integrity, including the ability to successfully deal with sensitive and / or confidential information.
  • Organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver assignments on time.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work effectively independently, in a team environment, and collaboratively with other departments.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills and a pleasant interpersonal demeanor with both external and internal customers at all levels.
  • A positive, "can-do" attitude and customer focused approach to enable you to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy, and sincerity.

  • This position requires the successful completion of a criminal and credit background check.
  • This role is location-specific because the team must closely collaborate on sequential, time-specific phases. There are also impromptu discussions and coaching as new information is discovered in the thick of commissions cycles.
  • We are based out of Shaw Court, Calgary downtown.

  • Flexibility in your daily hours during peak times and occasional working over weekends may be required, although efforts are made to avoid such situations as much as we can
