Position Summary : Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, performs clinical laboratory tests and analyses. Receives patients.

Collects and processes samples. Interprets and communicates test results to others. Maintains equipment. Maintains recordsMajor Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Receives patients and explains laboratory test procedures. Collects blood, urine and other samples from patients.
  • Logs and processes patient samples.
  • Performs laboratory tests and analyses such as flocculation tests, microscopy, cell culture plating, electrocardiograms, etc.
  • Interprets test results and communicates to others. Completes forms. Compiles data. Prepares reports. Maintains records and files.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations in the use of equipment. Ensures proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintains inventory. Recommends and purchases equipment and material.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge.
  • Uses equipment such as microscope, cell counter, computer, centrifuge and electrocardiogram machine.

    Education & Experience :

    DEC III (Medical Lab Technology)

    Two (2) years' related experience

    Other Qualifying Skills And / Or Abilities : Member of the Ordre Professionnel des Technologistes Médicaux du Québec (OPTMQ).

    Knowledge of medical terminology and demonstrated communication skills. Must be customer focused and service oriented, which includes but is not limited to being approachable, responsive, attentive and helpful.

    Assists all clients with a positive attitude, tact and diplomacy while maintaining a professional manner and competence at all times.

    Demonstrated ability to clearly receive, retain and transmit information with a proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels.

    Demonstrated ability to uphold the meticulous cleanliness of a medical laboratory and health clinic. Must be familiar with the sterilization process and comfortable sterilizing medical instruments.

    Proven ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem-solve and organize work within area of responsibility.

    Proven ability to be proactive and devote full attention to clientele. Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-

    task, prioritize and work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Proven discretion in dealing with confidential information.

    Demonstrated ability to explain protocols to patients and obtain informed consent. Proven manual dexterity and hand-to-eye coordination.

    Must be accurate and possess superior attention to detail with a proven ability to verify work. Proven ability to lift and carry weights of up to 40 pounds.

    Demonstrated ease with technological applications with a proven ability to work in a PC environment using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

    Demonstrated ability to work with clinical and administrative information systems such as Medesync is a very strong asset.
