The Opportunity :
As a Mechanical Engineering student, you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of engineering principals and gain valuable hands-on experience by solving engineering and design problems for our world class mining operations.
You will be working in our Major Projects group in one of the following areas : Primary upgrading, Secondary upgrading, Support Units, Utilities and Off-Sites.
There is also an opportunity to work for the sustaining capital project group within the project engineering team.
Key Responsibilities :
Work with mechanical discipline lead to learn basis principals of engineering and design
Support the professional engineers in developing the technical scope of work for procurement of mechanical equipment
Utilize hands-on mechanical aptitude and experience to solve daily problems to increase and maintain quality of design development
Gain insight into how the Oil and Gas industry operates
For the sustaining projects, the student will be introduced to project management activities for multi-discipline scope within the upgrader area
Introduction to the management of change process during project execution

Work Location : Calgary head office, or Horizon Oil sands, north of Fort McMurray, AB
Term Length : 4 to 12 months
Term Start : January, May or September 2022

Skills & Qualifications :
Currently enrolled in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of a of a Bachelor degree program specializing in Mechanical Engineering.
Strong knowledge of the basic design principles. Work experience with an engineering firm is considered an asset.
Strong mechanical aptitude
Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract
A pre-employment drug and alcohol test must successfully be complete
Successful applicants must provide acceptable evidence of being fully immunized against COVID-19 (two doses of Health Canada approved COVID-19 vaccine, plus 14 days after your second vaccination) before a start date can be set.
