EXP is seeking a Director, Electrical Systems to join our global Rail & Transit Systems sector. As the successful candidate, you will use your strategic leadership abilities to establish, lead and grow a team to successfully win and deliver traction power and multi-system power services to support a wide variety of transportation modes and projects across a dynamic North American market setting.

The specifics of the position are as follows :

Your Responsibilities

  • Build and expand external client relationships as a precursor to identifying market opportunities and developing win-work strategies;
  • Create and implement an effective business plan to secure future revenue streams that facilitate sustainable team growth;
  • Recruit and lead an appropriate blend of senior, intermediate and emerging engineering talent that successfully delivers our client obligations in the most efficient manner;
  • Establish appropriate operational budgets for the Electrical Systems team and effectively manage cost and delivery performance in accordance with business and project financial objectives;
  • Operate as the professional head for all matters related to Electrical Systems services, serve as project Technical Lead when appropriate and provide technical expertise and guidance to ensure that work delivered is compliant with the requirements of any project agreement or similar service contracts or subcontracts;
  • Liaise with the Project Controls Manager to effectively monitor project delivery performance;
  • Lead and direct the team by example’ in achieving company health, safety, security & environmental and ethics & compliance objectives;
  • Lead and drive business growth and the pursuit of new work in collaboration with peer groups and other EXP sectors as appropriate;
  • Lead the identification and development of emerging talent within the team and act as a mentor’ in providing guidance and direction for personal growth of team members;
  • Effectively communicate decisions, contractual clarifications or technical explanations on all matters relating to Electrical System service offerings to both internal and external clients.
  • Of particular importance is the ability to do so in a professional and constructive manner, even when the outcome may not be favorable to all parties;
  • Develop creative and innovative solutions to challenges encountered with design, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning or similar activities that may arise throughout the lifespan of a project.
  • The Skills, Knowledge and Abilities We Seek

  • A Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent;
  • Minimum of 20 years’ post graduate experience;
  • Licensed Professional Engineer;
  • Experienced in managing an engineering team for Rail & Transit or Power Transmission & Distribution projects;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to lead multi-disciplined engineering teams;
  • Ability to effectively interface with and influence engineering specialists, design managers and construction project managers in a competent professional manner;
  • Ability to develop and maintain client contacts as well as capture new business opportunities from initial enquiry through to project completion;
  • Experienced in delivering HV and LV system studies and design mandates in Rail & Transit or Power Transmission & Distribution project settings;
  • Working knowledge of FACTS, filtering and other power electronic conditioning equipment and their applications;
  • Working knowledge of AC and DC protection systems and applications;
  • Working knowledge of Rail & Transit Systems that interface with Traction Power Systems, including Track, Communications, Signaling, Vehicles, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Stray Current Corrosion Control is desirable;
  • PMP Certification desirable.
