The Manager, Global Tax leads our tax department (1 direct report) and is directly responsible for ensuring compliance with tax legislation and regulations globally.

This includes but is not limited to managing tax audits with local tax authorities, engaging in tax planning to minimize and defer cash tax payments and assessments, ensure tax provisions are prepared semi-annually with no material deficiencies for our audit, ensuring tax accounts are reconciled and trued-up on a timely basis, transfer pricing management, and other tax compliance obligations as necessary.


As a Manager you'll be responsible for leading our tax organization but still working as part of a larger finance team to ensure execution and compliance of all tax related matters globally.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :

People Development and Leadership

Demonstrates strong, competent leadership for team members to guide them in reaching their full potential and meeting their annual objectives, which supports achievement of our overall corporate finance goals.

Specifically, these responsibilities include but not limited to :

Full involvement with recruiting talent

Exemplifies our organization’s core values and culture, with acan-do and positive attitude

Provides leadership, mentoring, and development of less experienced staff through coaching, knowledge transfer, internal training delivery, assignment of challenging work opportunities

Conducts formal team performance reviews and provides input to individual performance ratings

Objectively recommends compensation adjustments, promotions, and grading changes

Takes pride and ownership over the tax organization and strives to continuously challenge the status quo to improve or streamline processes

Build relationships across client accounts to ensure excellent client service through an integrated service approach

Remain up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law

Manage the annual tax department budget and SG&A spend, and explain major variances

Tax Compliance and Governance

  • Responsible for preparing support schedules, and coordination of global corporate and indirect tax compliance across multiple countries, regions, provinces, and states mainly in Canada, US, APAC and Europe.
  • Prepares ad-hoc tax form filings, elections, etc. where necessary
  • Significant component of role is indirect tax filings as these are performed in-house globally.
  • Manages the organizations integrated tax software and rates within our ERP system
  • Coordinates with our FSSC department in ensuring all indirect tax rates, validations, are up-to-date with latest tax regulations
  • Supports our payroll department with tax related matters relating to taxable and non-taxable benefits

    Act as an early warning indicator to our senior management team on issues related to new tax legislation that could have a material effect on our business.

    Partners with client account finance teams to ensure indirect taxes are appropriately calculated and reported

    Engages 3rd party specialists as necessary in researching complex tax matters

    Responsible for Country-By-Country OECD filings for global organization

    Manages transfer pricing risk and compliance, including review of complex cross-border transactions, preparation of transfer documentation, and audit defence materials

    Identifies and monitors areas of risk in the control environment and propose actionable solutions to finance senior management

    Tax Accounting and Reporting

    Responsible for preparing semi-annual tax provision, rate reconciliations, and related note disclosures in accordance with IFRS

    Cash tax projections for quarterly forecast and annual budgets

    Ensuring the tax accounts on the balance sheet are reconciled with minimal reconciling transactions and differences

    Provide guidance on the accounting treatment and / or tax impact of proposed business transactions

    Research, analyze and document tax accounting policies and standard operating procedures (SOP’s) for the Company

    Provides ad-hoc tax accountingreporting and / or analysis as requested by senior management and shareholders

    Tax Advisory and Continuous Improvement

    Ensures continuous improvement of tax processes and controls; development and implementation of best practices

    Leads and provides timely support for all tax related audit requests and drive resolution to any issues / gaps identified

    Tax planning on the purchase and sale of a business, tax due diligence activities, assistance with tax structuring, purchase and sale agreement review, and PPA allocation review

    Advising on international expansion into foreign countries, assistance with tax controversy matters, preparation of tax memorandums and research on complex tax matters

    Provides and hosts educational presentations on practical tax related matters to our internal finance teams

    Other tax research as assigned

    Manages regular ad hoc research requests concerning indirect tax, transfer pricing issues and international taxation


  • University graduation with 5-10 years of relevant work experience as a Tax Manager; previous Big 4, large CPA firm or complex multinational corporation tax experience
  • Experience with indirect tax in Canada and US
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and US corporate tax compliance and working knowledge of tax in other countries preferably Australia or Europe.

  • Comfortable working with ERP and Financial reporting systems such as Oracle, Thompson Reuters, and Vena
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, good interpersonal skills and the ability to read and interpret legislation

    Work on multiple complex issues while communicating in a non-technical manner to facilitate

    Solid problem-solving skills and able to work through complex and ambiguous situations

  • Experience with modeling potential impacts of tax transactions and their effects on the global effective tax rate
  • Network and develop relationships with various internal finance team members and other external stakeholders
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments, work effectively under pressure and work well in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to think creatively and continuous improvement mindset

    Able to drive process improvements to mitigate tax risk and drive efficiency in tax reporting and compliance

    Proficiency with MS Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint

    Licenses and / or Professional Accreditation

    At least one of CPA, CA, CGA or CMA, (CPA, CA preferred)

    Completion of In-Depth Tax program preferred
