The University of Waterloo Library seeks an experienced, user focused professional librarian to assume Liaison Librarian responsibilities for the School of Optometry and Vision Science and the department of Biology.
This position reports to the Head, Davis Information Services and Resources and is a member of the Davis Information Services and Resources department.
The primary location for the librarian is the Witer Learning Resource Centre located in the School of Optometry and Vision Science.
The librarian supports the mission and strategic goals of the Library and the University of Waterloo through strong and effective partnerships.
The librarian connects faculty members and students with services, content, and tools that meet learning, teaching and research needs.
The librarian builds and curates collections in all formats and supports a program of extensive outreach, instruction and consultation.
They develop and deliver responsive and innovative research support, collaborate with colleagues and engage with users on scholarly communication initiatives.
The Library supports many campus priorities including student wellness, sustainability, and the development of Indigenous initiatives, recognizing the responsibility of truth and reconciliation as outlined in the 94 Calls To Action.
The University of Waterloo Library is a member of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI).
The Library is transitioning towards enhanced collaboration on a shared library platform through the OCUL Collaborative Futures project.
1. Education : ALA-accredited MLS / MLIS degree, or equivalent
2. Academic background or work experience in a health sciences discipline demonstrated through undergraduate or advanced degree, coursework or work experience
3. Several years experience in an academic, health sciences or medical library and can demonstrate :
4. Proven excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and commitment to fostering positive working relationships & building partnerships
5. Proven self-starter with demonstrated commitment to innovation, creativity, and excellence
6. Ability to develop, deliver and assess instructional content, in person and virtually, such as web content, screencasts, webinars
7. Superior customer relationship management skills. Ability to maintain effective working relationships across multiple and diverse organizations, and across levels within organizations from specialist to executive level
8. Demonstrated ability to independently, as well as collaboratively, plan, coordinate, implement and assess effective services and collections projects, including managing multiple and simultaneous projects
9. Demonstrated ability to analyze data and synthesize recommendations
10. Proven ability to work effectively in a service oriented environment, which values collaboration and collegiality
11. Demonstrated ability to interact with all staff in a respectful and sensitive manner
12. An understanding of the collection development process including principles of proactive information resources development and management, licensing and strong vendor relationships
13. Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
14. Knowledge of current practices and trends in the areas of information services, information seeking, information literacy and instruction, information resources development and management
15. Ability to identify new service and engagement opportunities that align with library and campus directions, and to collaborate with library managers and colleagues on the feasibility, development and sustainability of new services and programs
16. Ability and aptitude to use and learn new technologies to enhance and deliver information services
17. Ability and aptitude to collaborate in an online, technology-rich environment
18. Experience with financial and budget information
19. Understands how research contributes to evidence-based decision-making
The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and qualifications within the University Support Group (USG) level 10-13 salary range.
Hiring range : $66,605- $107,901 based on 2019 / 2020 salary scales.
