Job Purpose :

We are seeking an experienced technical lead with a particular focus on delivery of electronic trading software for a demanding, fast-paced front office technology client base.

The role will have a priority focus around delivering best in class pricing and distribution technology to the FXLM business.

The dev lead will have the following characteristics :

  • Ability to manage, motivate, prioritize work, deliver to deadlines
  • Track record of 5+ years of server-side Java development skills
  • Familiarity with one of more of the following additional technical areas : Relational databases (Sybase), Tibco RV, EMS, Solace, KDB, ION, low latency programming, No SQL databases, python / groovy scripting
  • A practical understanding of enterprise application delivery in a structured environment
  • Focused problem solving approach
  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organization, across multiple locales
  • Motivated by working on high profile project that benefits other developers
  • Strong software Engineering skills to build technology in the right way’, sustaining long term success
  • Job Background / Context :

    Markets Technology is a front to back group that works closely with our Markets businesses to design and implement technology solutions that achieve our challenging business and technical goals.

    The focus is changing within Markets technology at Citi. There is a commitment and drive to invest in building a common cross asset platform for electronic trading over the coming years.

    This particular role is within the FXLM group, with a primary focus of delivering to the EM business, but in addition there is an expectation that the successful candidate will also be involved in broad Markets initiatives, in support of the move to common.

    Specifically the tech lead will be part of a team which is responsible for functional areas within the STIRT pricing and distribution development group.

    For example, connectivity and distribution functions. The key goal is to build out an increased electronic franchise across all products covered by the EM FX desks globally.

    As a tech lead, you will have the opportunity to :

  • Lead & Build a Front Office software development environment
  • Involved in project from successful pilot to full-scale rollout
  • Extend the project (new features, enhancing existing) and contribute to strategic longer-term technical direction
  • Work closely with Front Office colleagues across multiple locations and business lines
  • Build your profile with senior technologists across the Markets Technology group
  • Key Responsibilities :

    The Tech Lead will be accountable for :

  • Coordinating with stakeholders to deliver work-items in line with expectations
  • Implementing solutions to issues identified
  • Identifying, estimating and implementing enhancements
  • Contribute to shaping the future technical direction of the product
  • Providing development support response to incidents and requests raised through support channels.
  • Communicating project progress and promoting achievements
  • Knowledge / Experience :

  • At least 5 years commercial Java development experience.
  • Experience developing and supporting mission critical applications.
  • Experience designing and developing distributed systems using a range of middleware and database products.
  • Knowledge of FX an advantage with an appreciation of whole pricing lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to regulatory environment impacting banking industry will be an advantage.
  • Experience working on a mature development in a large collaborative environment.
  • Skills :

  • Proficient in core Java development, UNIX server side with OO design. J2EE, EJB & thread programming.
  • Middleware Technologies Java, JMS, Solace and EMS messaging
  • Expertise in Unix (Linux & Solaris) & Windows Commands & scripting, XML technology
  • Database skills - Oracle (SQL and PL / SQL)
  • Process and tools to produce well written low defect rate code.
  • Experience of collaboration tools (source control).

  • Qualifications :

    The Applications Development Senior Manager is a senior management level position responsible for accomplishing results through the management of a team or department in an effort to establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team.

    The overall objective of this role is to drive applications systems analysis and programming activities.

    Responsibilities :

  • Manage one or more Applications Development teams in an effort to accomplish established goals as well as conduct personnel duties for team (e.
  • g. performance evaluations, hiring and disciplinary actions)

  • Utilize in-depth knowledge and skills across multiple Applications Development areas to provide technical oversight across systems and applications
  • Review and analyze proposed technical solutions for projects
  • Contribute to formulation of strategies for applications development and other functional areas
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of how areas of business integrate to accomplish business goals
  • Provide evaluative judgment based on analysis of factual data in complicated and unique situations
  • Impact the Applications Development area through monitoring delivery of end results, participate in budget management, and handling day-to-day staff management issues, including resource management and allocation of work within the team / project
  • Ensure essential procedures are followed and contribute to defining standards negotiating with external parties when necessary
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
  • Qualifications :

  • 6-10 years of relevant experience in the Financial Service industry
  • Experience as Applications Development Manager
  • Experience as senior level in an Applications Development role
  • Stakeholder and people management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Proven project management skills
  • Basic knowledge of industry practices and standards
  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree / University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree preferred
