Rogers TV, a division of Rogers Communications Partnership Inc., is a group of 29 community television stations in Ontario, Newfoundland, and New Brunswick.

Rogers TV is currently looking for a Broadcast Technician who will work with our team in maintaining production facilities in Ottawa as well as various councils, arenas and mobile production trucks at various locations within the Ottawa area.

This includes the necessary support for our mobile and studio production equipment, web encoding, non-linear editing, server maintenance, automation and file sharing.

In addition to these duties, the selected candidate will be accountable to provide support to the Radio team with respect to the simulcasts.

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge in a broadcast environment and can bring that experience to bear in order to maintain IT networks supporting Rogers tv’s production and distribution needs.

Responsibilities :

  • Perform technical maintenance and troubleshooting for Rogers tv production trucks and facilities in Ottawa.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to support production requirements within the Ottawa studios.
  • Develop preventative maintenance plan, schedule and implement same.
  • Liaise with station managers and production staff to respond to their technical faults, issues and priorities.
  • Assess faults, prioritize, and report on completion or remedy.
  • Lead and project manage new capital initiatives.
  • Provide on-site technical support for productions as required.
  • Recommend, test and install new equipment and systems.
  • Complete research to provide training on new installations as required.
  • Support and maintain Rogers tv’s local IT systems including servers, network infrastructure, and applications.
  • Liaise with internal IT staff to ensure hardware and application compliance with corporate standards and policies as required.
  • Cultivate positive relations with clients, staff, volunteers, vendors and suppliers.
  • Perform all required administrative duties including fault reports, monthly reports, time and attendance, purchasing and ordering of equipment.
  • Adhere to all policy and legal requirements under Health and Safety Legislation, all Roger's Health and Safety policy requirements and to the provisions of Rogers Respect and Dignity policy.
  • Qualifications :

  • College diploma in Electronics and / or Computer Sciences or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience.
  • Solid understanding of broadcast engineering relevant to digital production environment plus automated server-based master control operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows based systems.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and VidCAD.
  • In-depth knowledge of analog and digital video and audio systems.
  • Motivated to provide exceptional customer support and be an active member of the overall production process.
  • Experience in project management and able to lead capital projects as required.
  • Basic working knowledge of television production and editing.
  • Highly computer literate with demonstrated competence using desktop applications including Microsoft Office, Avid editing, Xpression graphics, routing configuration, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, with minimal supervision at remote locations, including managing multiple conflicting priorities.
  • Detail oriented and able to establish, communicate and meet deadlines.
  • Ensure all company policies and legal requirements under applicable Health and Safety Legislation are met or exceeded.
  • Valid ON class G license with excellent driving and workplace safety records.
  • Be available to travel as required.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours as required for special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
