Position Summary

The Residence is a premier and highly specialized facility focused on delivering world-class, medically-based treatment for mental health, addiction and concurrent conditions in a private, highly personalized and luxurious residential setting.

It is staffed by a dedicated team of nationally recognized medical and clinical experts including psychiatrists, physicians, and psychologists with access to national experts in various mental health and addiction specialties at the Homewood Health Centre.

All activities are focused on helping clients build the skills they need to achieve and sustain recovery.

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Homewood provides the full range of direct patient care through the therapeutic patient-nurse relationship to patients of all ages and from all backgrounds.

This is a Temporary part-time position (hours in accordance with collective agreement. Requires shift work, weekends and extended hours) until August 2020.

What you'll be doing

  • The Registered Nurse, as an essential interdisciplinary team member, practices from a theory base to provide the full range of nursing care services including group facilitation.
  • Integrates research into practice; and adapts nursing care to patient needs - all framed by the ethics of rights, care, and responsibility.
  • The RN promotes a safe environment and provides care to more complex patient populations whose needs and outcomes are not always predictable.
  • The Registered Nurse at Homewood additionally specializes in mental health nursing and in the provision of competent, holistic care addressing the bio-
  • psycho-social and spiritual needs

    of patients, families, the community, and coworkers

  • Working in an open environment
  • Discretion is the utmost given the patient demographics

  • What we're looking for

  • Licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Bachelor of Nursing would be an asset
  • CNA psychiatric certification an asset
  • Working knowledge of CBT
  • Working knowledge of DBT
  • Exceptional customer service is required
  • Experience assisting in program development
  • De-escalation skills
  • Ability to facilitate intake assessments
  • Venipuncture skills required
  • Experience and education related to concurrent conditions, mental health and addiction assessment and treatment planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to have positive working relationships.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated communication skills
  • Strong assessment skills
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and knowledge of community mental health resources
  • CPR / Basic rescuer
