POSITION SUMMARY :
The Nursing Assistant is responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of residents by providing care and counselling within the purview of his professional practice.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Establishes a helping relationship with residents, reassures and listens to them;
Ensures the well-being of residents according to the establishment’s standards;
Follows up on residents’ medical files and prescriptions at the request of the doctor, or the pharmacist;
Coordinates the routing of medical reports;
Manages the appointments of residents with the residence’s doctor;
Visits residents as needed;
Performs interventions such as checking vital signs, giving injections and applying aseptic techniques, including dressing;
Encourages residents to proactively take charge of their health;
Monitors the residents’ state of health and directs them to specialists for consultation;
Ensures communication and follow-up among coworkers for any events of a medical nature in the logbook;
Ensures that residents who are ill or unable to get around have a meal, follows up with food service and charges applicable fees;
Assists the director in the intervention plan when a resident shows signs of autonomy loss;
In cases of autonomy loss, helps to evaluate the resident’s care needs with various stakeholders and suggests a meeting with a specialist;
Notes any behaviours or events that may jeopardize the safety of residents experiencing autonomy loss in their file;
Liaises, if necessary, with the family and / or health institutions;
Trains staff to deal with medical emergencies;
Performs administrative follow-up on employee CPR and PDSB certifications;
Answers call-bells and all emergency situations, intervenes;
Meets with new residents as needed to inform them of available health services;
Organizes specialist visits and health information sessions for residents;
Keeps resident cards in the emergency binder up to date;
Keeps a list of emergency arrivals and departures or residents;
Ensures all emergency equipment and devices are working properly;
Manages the inventory of medical equipment and places orders as needed;
Acts as a resource person in the event of workplace accidents;
Performs other related tasks.
Residence - Clients experiencing autonomy loss
Distributes medication to residents;
Provides partial or complete personal hygiene care for residents;
Supervises resident attendants.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
Diploma of vocational studies (DEP) in Health, Assistance and Nursing;
Member of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec;
Two (2) to five (5) years of experience as a nursing assistant;
Experience working or volunteering with seniors;
CPR and PDSB (asset);
Knowledge of Word and Excel software.
