Housing Support Worker / Emergency Shelter Support Worker Overnight (Relief Awake)

We are seeking reliable, emotionally intelligent, responsible and energetic individuals who are passionate about providing support in both our Charles St.
Men’s Shelter and Supportive Housing programs.
This is a casual, permanent position with no regularly scheduled shifts, you will work on an as needed basis. Shifts will be within the hours of 10 : 00 pm to 8 : 00 am Sunday to Saturday.
All casual staff must commit to a minimum of 3 shifts per month.
Your key responsibilities for Housing Support Worker include :
Responsible for individual housing stability and life skills supports
Responsible for facilitating community inclusion activities
Responsibility to refer, connect and liaise with community supports
Core Team Responsibilities
Responsible for working in a safe and healthy manner
Responsible for conducting building checks and ensuring safety of the community and tenants
Your key responsibilities for Emergency Shelter Support Worker include :
Perform intake for those accessing the shelter
Relate with men accessing the shelter
Perform shelter team duties ensuring the best possible operation of the program
Responsible for working in a healthy and safe manner
Your skills and experience include :
University degree or minimum 2 year college diploma in social work or related social sciences is required or related and relevant work experience
Passion to support individuals and groups living on a low income who have support needs within a supportive housing environment
Experience in case planning / management with individuals and assisting them in developing life skills
Experience supporting group activities , building community capacity and working with tenant council
Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, tenants and community members
Must have exemplary emotional intelligence, communication, conflict management and problem solving skills
Very good communication, organization and interpersonal skills
Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, tenants, shelter participants and community members
Respectful, supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical disabilities, addictions, mental health and other life challenges
Current First Aid and Naloxone training or willingness to obtain at hiring
Current food safety certificate or willingness to obtain
Valid G driver’s license is required
Experience working within a non-profit and / or social services environment preferred
Ability to work sensitively and effectively with people from various abilities, life situations and cultural backgrounds
Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
