Job Summary

With moderate direction, handles litigated claims specific to the Specialties / Financial Lines of business (including D&O, E&O, Financial Institutions, Cyber, Employment Practices liability, Fiduciary Liability, Surety, Environmental, Travel, Accident & Health) of low to moderate exposure and complexity within specific limits of authority by following established protocols to ensure that claims are handled in the most efficient, effective way while delivering a customer-centric claims service.

Job Accountabilities

  • Document claims file by accurately capturing and updating claims data / information in compliance with best practices for low to moderate exposure / complexity personal or commercial line Claims
  • Exercise judgment to determine policy verification and coverage determination by analyzing applicable coverage for claims and determining whether the loss falls within the coverage
  • Exercise judgment to determine liability by gathering and analyzing relevant facts; utilizing applicable law; establishing basic principles of negligence
  • Develop strategy for resolution within confines of legal framework
  • Work independently and with management to assess and determine whether matter can be resolved by settlement, alternative dispute resolution or trial, and ensure that matter is reserved appropriately and timely
  • Analyze potential exposure / damages based upon facts as well as relevant case law, expert evaluations within the appropriate jurisdiction
  • Participate and attend mediations / arbitrations with legal counsel for effective case resolution
  • Refer claim to subrogation and fraud teams by identifying potential subrogation and fraud
  • Manage external lawyers and vendors as required
  • Business Travel, as required
  • Maintain Applicable Exam / Licensing, as required
  • Job Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor and 3 or more years of experience in the Legal area
  • 3 or more years of legal practice experience in managing Specialties / Financial Lines claims or similar experience in insurance defence and / or coverage practice or commercial litigation
  • Knowledge of insurance claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment
  • Actual litigation or litigation management experience
  • Negotiation experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Preferred

  • JD strongly preferred
  • Member of the bar
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
