The Electrical Engineer and Designer will interact with the customers and suppliers and will work closely with the Engineering, Production, Procurement and Installation teams while reporting to the Projects Operations Manager.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Develop and prepare electrical designs, and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data while utilizing Design Requests and conforming to sound engineering practices, and relevant national and international standards and practices.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics of electrical designs as well as other support drawings using AutoCAD software.
  • This involves consulting with other departments, project managers and fabrication groups and making changes to electrical drawings as necessary

  • Create and maintain bills of materials
  • Programming of programable electronic devices
  • Create a PLC logic programs as per design requirements
  • Modify and download a logic program to a PLC
  • Ensure system performance reliability and conformance to customer specifications
  • Attend project kick off meetings to gain knowledge on project specifications, expectations and timelines as well as provide technical knowledge on electrical system functionality.
  • In addition, the Electrical Designer will provide hours and material costs estimates

  • Maintain awareness of budget and schedule commitments during the design cycle. This involves bringing significant deviations to the attention of the Project Manager
  • Responsible for the research phase of purchasing for electrical parts. This involves contacting different vendors and factoring price, quality and delivery.
  • The Electrical Designer is responsible for justifying product choice to the Project Manager, and submitting purchase orders to the purchasing department for all electrical components

  • Respond to inquiries, questions, concerns from individual employees, departments, and customers. This involves providing technical support in the area of electrical design
  • Assisting with the production of maintenance manuals using Microsoft Word / Adobe
  • Assist shop personnel during manufacturing
  • Assist installation and service personnel to troubleshoot equipment functionality
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Electrical Technologist College Diploma or Electrical Engineering Degree (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience with O / H Cranes is an asset
  • Machine automation experience is an asset
  • Must be organized and a self-starter; able to work with limited supervision
  • Strong computer skills; proficient with Microsoft word and excel
  • Experiences in balancing electrical design work in conjunction with mechanical assemblies
  • Strong interpersonal skills; deals with conflict effectively
  • Must be a strong multi-tasker, and must excel at coping with conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Strong ability in electrical systems and automation system troubleshooting
  • Proven ability to design electrical control systems for industrial machinery
  • Ability to read and understand motor control electrical schematics and related logic diagrams
  • Previous experience with Canadian electrical code
