About the role

We are looking for an Advisor, Tax Risk Management to execute activities related to tax risks, tax accounting and compliance with legal requirements.

The position is based in Montreal with standard office hours. Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Tax Risk Management, Canadian Corporations, you will be responsible for :

  • Provide tax risk management services to the Rio Tinto business units
  • Prepare tax returns, forms and related documents, including in respect to foreign activities of Canadian business units
  • Determine the periodic payment amounts to be made
  • Prepare tax provision and effective tax rate calculation including current and deferred tax and the related entries
  • Assist with the preparation of transparency reports issued by Rio Tinto
  • Research tax issues and recommend alternative tax treatments to reduce the organisation’s tax burden (includes responding to international tax questions)
  • Analyse the impact of legislative changes
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for process improvement around the tax risk management process
  • Assist in tax audits and objection files, as applicable
  • About you

    To be successfully considered for this role, you will have :

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and Master's degree in taxation (or CPA Canada's Basic Tax Program)
  • Thorough knowledge of IFRS standard IAS 12
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience (Canadian and / or international corporate taxation)
  • Experience in firm or industry
  • Fluent in English and French (written and spoken)
  • Assets :

  • Knowledge of tax accounting rules and good team spirit will be assets for this position.
