Reporting to the President, the Controller serves as direct supervisor of the Accounting department, overseeing all aspects of the financial reporting process.

The Controller ensures that the Account department is structured appropriately, with all accounting processes and controls documented and updated as necessary.

1.Management & Strategic Planning

  • Assist in the company’s strategic planning and support tactical initiatives
  • Provide input and feedback on the development & implementation of strategic business plans
  • Develop financial and tax strategies
  • Assist in the development of performance metrics that support the company’s strategic direction
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies & procedures
  • Manage outsourced functions, such as IT, HR (payroll benefits)
  • Oversee Accounting department operations, including design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals & objectives
  • 2.Finance & Transactions

  • Maintain banking relationships
  • Ensure periodic bank reconciliations are completed
  • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  • Maintain orderly accounting filing system
  • Construct, monitor, and maintain a system of reliable controls over accounting transactions
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile
  • Monitor all open legal issues involving the company, and any legal issues affecting the industry
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts
  • Ensure accounts payable are paid in a timely manner, and that all reasonable discounts are exercised
  • Ensure that all accounts receivable are collected promptly
  • Process payroll in a timely manner
  • 3.Operations

  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team
  • Manage the Accounting, Human Resources, and IT areas of the company
  • Oversee employee benefit plans, with emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package
  • 4.Reporting

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements
  • Coordinate the preparations of corporate annual reports
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure performance of company operations
  • Calculate and issue financial operating metrics
  • Manage production of annual budgets and forecasts
  • Calculate variances from budget and report significant issues to management
  • Provide and maintain a system of management cost reports
  • Provide financial analyses, including setting up and refining dashboard to monitor KPIs
  • 5.Compliance

  • Coordinate annual reviews and audits
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • Comply with local, provincial and federal government requirements and tax
  • Job Requirements :

  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
  • The Controller has at least 5+ years Accounting industry experience in a fast-paced corporate environment.
  • BA / BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
  • CPA / MBA preferred
  • Solid understanding of Audited Financial Statements
  • Proficiency in Annual Financial Reporting
  • Practical knowledge of Financial Markets
  • Financial Analytics experience
  • Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
  • Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
  • Skillful in analytical, quantitative and social skills
  • Commitment and abilities to meet critical business deadlines
