Job Description Summary
Under limited supervision, Select Account Executive Officer (AEO) is responsible for underwriting, profitability, growth and retention of new and renewal business that is consistent with underwriting strategies for brokers within an assigned territory.
The AEO is accountable for selling and marketing all Select products as well as managing a high volume environment. The AEO position description is intended to describe the job as performed at the highest level of independence and with the greatest degree of authority.
At the senior level an incumbent is responsible to sell and market Select products and services, develop broker relationships and independently negotiate the most difficult accounts.
In addition the incumbent acts as a technical resource to less experienced Account Executives and provides mentoring to trainees and Account Managers as needed.
The AEO operates within authority levels as delegated by the Underwriting Manager. This job does not lead others.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Underwriting Quality / Profitability :
Follow Select Best Practices, including Underwriting, Workflow and Playbook.
Ensure underwriting quality and profitability through application of the appropriate level of underwriting analysis based on risk complexity to accept, decline, modify, rate and quote these accounts.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with underwriting strategies and regulatory requirements. Identify and take corrective action and / or collaborate with the appropriate area within the organization based on individual risk characteristics identified through broker reviews, Large Loss Analysis, risk control, etc.
At direction of Underwriting Manager, assist with month QFP process. May provide individual AE feedback on monthlyQFP results.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for a segment or line of business within the region.
Act as a lead AE by setting high standards for the pre-qualification process and serve as the team pre-qualification role model.
Function as point of sale for proposal delivery and negotiation.
Understand and effectively utilize competitive market data.
Build and maintain profitable broker relationships.
Responsible for handling larger, more challenging broker assignment and negotiate the most.
New and Renewal Business Management :
Identify opportunities to write additional lines of business using knowledge of individual risk characteristics and Select Products and Appetite.
Proactively seek to retain key renewals by working closely with brokers and internal business partners.
Demonstrate the ability to build partnerships with other business groups and identify and deliver broker and product solutions at the account level.
Maintain an understanding of Travelers products, services and solutions and initiate discussions with other business units as appropriate.
Broker Management :
Identify and communicate to Sales Executive issues and opportunities requiring broker interaction.
Participate in broker planning process as prescribed by the Broker Planning Best Practices.
Partner with Sales Executive to create a business plan for assigned territory with an emphasis to develop strong renewal retention and profitable new business pipeline.
Communicate identified broker training needs to Sales Executive.
Help identify, develop and deliver technical training within the team.
Acts as a primary technical resource to less experienced Account Executives and provides mentoring to trainees and Account Managers as needed.
Assist Underwriting Manager with coaching and mentoring staff.
Model the way in the execution of Select Business Process.
Work with and influence all members of the Select team to exceed customer expectations.
Participate and lead projects and assignments as directed by Select team leadership.

5 years underwriting experience.
Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge
Minimum college diploma in insurance related program preferred.
4 year university degree and / or related business experience preferred.
5+ years Commercial Underwriting experience preferred.
