Senior Communications Strategist
Full Time Permanent
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Working in a fast-paced and bilingual environment, you will be focused on developing and leading integrated and multiplatform corporate communications plans and strategies to effect change within Canada’s medical community.
Acting as the subject matter expert, you will lead and guide the MCC with issue and reputation management, stakeholder relations and change management.
You will be creating strategies and oversee the delivery of tactics that align and advance the organization’s strategic objectives.
What you’ll do
Lead the development and execution of communication strategies and plans to effectively support corporate strategic initiatives
Develop stakeholder engagement plans to assess initial and ongoing impressions of MCC strategic initiatives among key partner groups
Conduct qualitative and / or quantitative research with stakeholder groups, establishing baselines and proposing communication strategies to build awareness
Cultivate and manage strategic business relationships with stakeholders, including medical regulatory authorities, faculties of medicine, Council and test committees, government, etc.
Develop communication tactics and products in support of MCC strategic plans
Liaise and engage with internal and external team members in the development of communication products including written and digital content
What you need to succeed
Fluently bilingual; excellent oral and written skills in both English and French
Degree in public relations, journalism, marketing or communications
5-7 years of progressively responsible and relevant communications, engagement or external relations experience
Experience with issues management and dealing with politically contentious issues / environments
Experience developing integrated communications, engagement and external relations strategies and programs
Experience acting as an official spokesperson for strategic initiatives, and experience with news media campaigns, including media relations strategies and developing key messaging, news releases, backgrounders and Qs & As
Ability to conduct stakeholder outreach and engagement initiatives in English and in French
Strong computer skills and excellent knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Excellent knowledge of professional editing standards and practices
Ability to adapt the writing style and content to a specific audience, as well as to the intended media / channel for distribution / dissemination
Demonstrated skills working with and motivating teams, and engaging support from dedicated and non-dedicated team members alike
Ability to build and maintain relationships with high-level stakeholders across the medical community and in government
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
