Reporting to the Senior Specialist Regulatory Approvals, the Senior Lead, Regulatory Approvals is responsible for directing and managing the Social, Environmental, and Regulatory Approvals (SERA) component of major projects.

You will be independently leading complex projects from the development of strategic permitting plans, building solutions to emerging issues, to acquiring approvals.

To be successful in this role we require someone with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, who is skilled at building and maintaining relationships.

This is vital as you will be leading a team and working with many partners, including government officials, Indigenous groups, and communities of interest.

We are looking for someone who has strong technical writing skills, is a motivated self-starter, and can collaborate well with a team in a dynamic environment.

You are someone who has a solid understanding of how environmental disciplines relate to one another through impact assessments.

Responsibilities :

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead the development of integrated and high quality regulatory approvals applications through implementation of regulatory and engagement strategies and plans for major water quality mitigation or mine development projects
  • Direct the application review process on behalf of Teck, including coordinating responses to reviewer comments and negotiation of draft permit conditions
  • Lead multi-disciplinary consulting teams, with close collaboration with engineering teams
  • Manage budgets, schedule, and scope of the SERA components of projects
  • Ensure that projects align with requirements set out in agreements, with Indigenous groups and with Teck's regional environmental and social programs
  • Collaborate with mine operations, project teams, and subject matter specialists to ensure full integration of SERA aspects within the project
  • Provide briefings to the SERA Advisory Group and Project Board members
  • Manage and / or mentor junior regulatory approvals staff
  • Identify risks and opportunities, and recommend changes to the strategic direction for SERA processes and guidelines, where necessary
  • Qualifications :

  • Degree or diploma in a related field, such as engineering, environmental science, political science, law, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum eight years demonstrated ability leading the regulatory aspects of major projects in an industrial environment, that were subject to environmental assessment or major permitting processes, preferably in BC
  • Familiarity with resource and extractive industries is an asset
  • Excellent project management skills and experience in managing large multidisciplinary projects and consulting teams
