About the role :
The Vice-President, Finance is accountable for the financial and risk management operations of Flanagan Foodservice and its affiliate companies, including the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.
The Vice-President, Finance is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, direction and control across a range of financial services and will participate with senior leadership in formulating corporate strategy and goals.
The incumbent will be a leader, facilitator, and integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, and will be called upon to exercise significant judgment in guiding strategic business decisions, budget and forecasting processes, both operating and capital.
Key accountabilities will include but are not limited to :
Assumes primary fiscal responsibility for the company, overseeing the areas of accounting, finance, forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting;
Provides strategic oversight and direction to align with Flanaganâ€™s strategic plan and annual business plans;
Leads the development, implementation, and administration of financial management, risk management, compliance to government regulatory and financial standards, and financial performance measurements policies, systems and programs;
Directs the organizationâ€™s financial planning and accounting practices as well as its relationship with lending institutions, shareholders, the foodservice industry and financial community personally or through subordinate managers;
Instrumental in strategic planning, promoting corporate vision / mission / values, and ensuring superior customer service;
Builds effective working relationships within the organization as well as with related companies, a wide range of stakeholders, and government agencies.
Liaises with trade groups on key issues; and where applicable, participates in government advocacy initiatives;
Demonstrates management, leadership, strong communication and problem solving skills, continuous improvement, efficiency, and the ability to take a strategic approach to identify and manage emerging / complex issues;
Directs the Controller to ensure the accuracy, security, proper storage, back-up and recovery, and integrity of financial records, information and reports through good accounting procedures and adequate internal controls;
Ensures the timely and accurate delivery of financial information to the shareholders and the Board for the quarterly and annual meetings for all divisions and alliances;
Key contact for external auditors and serves as primary legislative liaison for company financial issues. Reviews performance of external accountant(s).
Periodically engages external consultants to test internal controls, liability, expense and tax reduction opportunities, and business continuity;
Assumes full accountability for Flanaganâ€™s pricing model and the execution of Flanaganâ€™s contract customer price maintenance;
directing the Controller and his / her direct reports in managing this important strategic function.
Provides financial advice and counsel to Senior Management, the Advisory Board and the Board of Directors to assist them in the discharge of their duties, successfully implement their strategies and provide effective oversight and governance;
Leads, along with the President and CEO, all mergers and acquisitions (M & A) and divestitures initiatives, assessing viable business opportunities, providing sound business and financial advice, and executing comprehensive due diligence throughout the process as well as playing a significant role in the integration of any successful acquisitions;
Directs, sources and analyzes effective financing, capital, foreign exchange, hedging, and investing;
Ensures budgeting assumptions are sound and plans are in place to achieve the annual budget targets;
Monitors and analyzes periodic (weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual) operating results against budget;
Manages risk to minimize exposure as balanced against company growth and profitability objectives;
Contributes to the general management of the organization as an Officer of the Company;
A current professional accounting designation (CPA);
Minimum ten (10) years of progressive, proven leadership experience;
A graduate Business degree and experience in foodservice and / or distribution industry would be an asset;
Must be able to demonstrate senior financial leadership expertise in a private company environment;
Must be a strategic leader who maintains a departmental organizational structure sufficient to meet all goals and objectives;
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with external stakeholders;
Skilled in conflict-resolution, mediation, and effectively resolving situations in a timely manner;
Effective presenter and experienced negotiator with proven influencing skills;
Exceptional skills in mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference;
Demonstrated success as an effective communicator with above average problem-solving skills;
Proven ability to establish and maintain positive employee engagement and develop highly effective performing teams;
Proficient with advanced computer skills.
