Job Description

The Privacy Manager for Extendicare will manage and maintain a comprehensive enterprise-wide privacy program across Extendicare’s long-term care, home care, and corporate areas, that enables standardized privacy practices that minimize risk and ensure the confidentiality of protected information across Extendicare.

This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model

Accountabilities :

  • Provides strategic and tactical advice to Extendicare’s leaders on privacy and data protection issues
  • Leads privacy issue management processes and protocols across Extendicare, including reporting to appropriate provincial privacy governance bodies
  • Manages and responds to privacy incidents
  • With Quality and Risk, Information Technology, Legal and Operations partners, implements a privacy maturity roadmap across Extendicare operations and corporate areas
  • Serves as a subject matter expert assisting in functional requirements related to privacy, such as negotiations with clients, vendors and partners
  • Leads privacy education for Extendicare
  • Documents and communicates clear privacy requirements for business initiatives
  • Reports on the performance of the privacy program using established metrics
  • Monitors privacy trends in the internal and external government, and advises on impact to Extendicare’s information and privacy practices
  • Skills and Experience :

  • 5+ years of experience in applying Canadian privacy laws
  • Familiarity with health information legislation in Ontario, and interest / aptitude in learning legislation for Manitoba and Alberta, and / or Nova Scotia.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver measurable business outcomes in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree.
  • IAPP certified (or willing to become certified within 12 months)
  • Occasional travel may be required
