life balance in order to maintain a positive working environment What This Position Is All About : This Operations Manager role is an important part of the leadership team in supporting our growing Ecommerce Fulfillment business within our HBC Scarborough Distribution Centre.

The responsibility of the Operations Manager is to provide managerial expertise and direction in all areas of the daily operations including leadership, organizational structure, productivity programs, service levels, communication, and team development.

This position is accountable for the daily functions within the Distribution Centre for timely and accurate processing. This location is currently the home to approximately 400 HBC associates, which peaks to approximately 800 during the fall season.

The Operations Manager in this location will have an important part in this growth of the building in being responsible for working with management to contribute to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices in order to support future growth.

  • You Also Have :

    University degree / college diploma or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience

    Minimum of 3 years previous Operations Manager experience in similar role

    Minimum 5-10 years in a leadership role

    Experience in ecommerce or high volume unit pick and pack environment

    Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)

    Proficient in using MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)

    Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision

    Self-directed and self-motivated

    Demonstrated ability to develop strong partnerships

    Strong planning, problem solving and organization skills

    Past experience in working with collective agreements would be an asset

    Be flexible to work weekends and some holidays

    As Operations Manager, you will :

    Primary responsibilities include :

    Develop and execute staffing and resource plans for multiple departments

    Develop and execute strategies to support high volume growth

    Lead team to execute to weekly / daily service requests

    Develop and execute to financial plans

    Identify areas for process improvements and lead team to execute

    Facilitate communications and consistency across multiple shifts / departments

    Promote and advocate for HR initiatives and people programs within supervisory group

    Maintain standards and strive for service level improvements

    Emphasize exceptional service internally and externally

    Actively supports the company’s commitment to standards of quality customer service

    Leadership role in the execution of training and development programs

    Leadership role in the development, measurement and execution of programs aimed at improving efficiency and productivity of the work force

    Leadership role in aligning business strategies with change management strategies to build capabilities to sustain and implement change

    Physical security of company assets, building and property

    Awareness of paper / procedure errors that could lead to shrinkage

    Actively supports and advocates the company’s Health and Safety programs

    Promote safety and disciplines infractions

    Define objectives for self and others

    Develop action plans and has alternative plans

    Set high standards for self and others

    Adhere to policies and standards

    Leverage resources to achieve results

    Fosters team effort and adapts to change

    Maintain all communication programs including regular staff meetings, follow up on ACCESS concerns / issues, supports employee recognition programs, performance discussions

    Shares all relevant information with others

    Assign challenging and realistic tasks and welcome constructive questions

    Evaluate and control performance for continuous improvement

    Timely and effective completion of staff performance reviews

    Create an atmosphere of continuous learning and identify and develop 2-3 candidates for succession planning

    Keep current and continue to learn (i.e. Best of Class) develop new skills and knowledge in self and others

    Specific :

    Meet all service levels requirements set out

    Ensure all areas of the operations are maintained and maintenance and IS departments are made aware of problems / issues

    Provide support and give direction to all associates in order to complete their daily functions

    Provide any required training for any related tasks

    Operational changes to assist in improving and reducing cost of processes

    Plan staffing requirements in relation to anticipated volumes

    Maintain order and respond to all union related matters

    Communicate daily with associates and related departments the procedural changes, updates or corrections

    How Often You May Travel :

    Office is located within the Scarborough Distribution Centre

    Periodic Travel within the GTA for meetings
