The Group Benefits National Disability Best Practices Team is looking for an analytical, self-starter to join their team in the role of Mental Health Specialist on a regular full-time basis.

Reporting to the Manager, National Disability Best Practices team, the Mental Health Specialist is responsible for assessing mental health disability claims, and providing support to Disability Case Managers.

The Mental Health Specialist is also involved in special projects to enhance the profitability of the department, along with continuous quality improvement, and practice / procedure development to ensure appropriate risk management.

Primary function

  • Provide technical claims assessment and support to Long-term Disability, Short-term Disability and Absence Management Consultation Services Case Managers on Mental Health disability cases
  • Provide training on ongoing changes or updated case management requirements
  • Provide ad hoc support to supervisors, plan administrators, Disability Management consultants, Rehab Specialists and Sales
  • Support any ongoing strategy development on managing Mental Health Disability claims
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Develop partnership with Psychiatric consultants
  • Facilitate communication with the mental health community and individual practitioners
  • Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in health sciences (or equivalent) required
  • Work experience in the clinical field of Mental Health
  • Experience in disability case management
  • Volunteerism in the mental health community
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written, French an asset
  • Ability to influence and negotiate
  • Solid working knowledge of PC applications and mainframe systems
  • General knowledge of company policies, systems and functions
  • Strong evaluative abilities
  • Healthy view and understanding of mental health accompanied by an ability to apply to disability claims management
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Able to work under pressure and meet commitments
  • Aptitude for coaching and mentoring as well as training of employees
