The National Research Council is a complex, knowledge-based organization that includes 14 Research Centres with well over 100 research distinct programs, a large grants and contributions organization with national reach, and two corporate services divisions.
NRC requires an evolving information and technology environment that supports, enables, and secures research and innovation, both internally and in collaboration with industry partners while also delivering accessible, effective, and efficient internal services.
These solutions are delivered across multiple, segmented network environments each with distinct security controls and available capabilities.
The Knowledge Information and Technology Services (KITS) Branch works with internal clients and partners to deliver IM / IT solutions to support a wide range of research programs, scientific initiatives, industrial and academic collaborations, business development engagements, and internal services activities.
The scope of KITS’ IM / IT projects and initiatives may range from multi-year enterprise programs to operational enhancements of transactional services.
KITS delivers many of these programs, initiatives, and activities leveraging consultants and contractors with funding provided by temporary sources and / or by clients.
The Enterprise Architect will be expected to :
Identify business / ICT requirements against the current enterprise architecture, perform gaps analyses, develop Reference Architecture documents (RADs), and prepare migration strategies
Analyze business requirements and information flows to fully understand how research is conducted and how researchers communicate with systems and with collaborators
Assess the feasibility of migrating from the current state to the target business architecture and enabling technologies
Identify the risks associated with migrating to the target business architecture and technologies and make recommendations for risk mitigation
Identify business and technology trends that create opportunities for business improvement
Advise senior executives on ICT trends and emerging technologies that create opportunities for business improvement and evaluate the impact on the organization and existing architecture
Proactively seek improvements to the existing ICT infrastructure and architecture, and recommend alternative solutions, methodologies, and strategies
Identify and document technical requirements aligned to business goals and objectives
Assess the feasibility of alternative technology solutions
Do thorough Options Analysis, including risks and impacts, of potential solutions
Conduct cost / benefit analysis of the most desirable and feasible options
Provide oversight throughout the process
Develop technical architectures, frameworks, and strategies
Ensure the integration of all aspects of technology solutions
Ensure documentation is complete, accurately describing solutions and the process to enable and support each solution
Ensure all artifacts are stored in the appropriate repository and shared with Enterprise Architecture team members
