OVERVIEW
Vertex is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Environmental Scientist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for project coordination and reporting for predominantly upstream oil and gas projects in northeast British Columbia and northwest Alberta.
This role will have a focus on coordination of the various stages in closure of sites through well abandonment to reclamation certification and provide opportunity for reporting on the various lifecycle milestones.
This individual will play a critical role in the continued growth of the project execution team operating in the region.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma or higher education related to environmental sciences, biology, hydrogeology, geology, or other related discipline
Minimum 3 - 5 years of environmental work experience with experience in : Phase 1 Environmental Site AssessmentsPhase 2 Environmental Site AssessmentsRemediationGroundwater monitoringReclamationReclamation Assessments
Experience writing and reviewing reports for technical accuracy
Working knowledge of and ability to interpret environmental regulations, guidelines and standards
Excellent communication and technical reporting skills
Ability to work independently and in a team
Strong time management and organizational skills
Professional designation applicable for conducting professional sign off in British Columbia is an asset
Project management experience is an asset (cost estimates, scheduling, budget tracking, client communication)
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for project coordination, cost control and project scoping to ensure effectively versatile solutions are developed to meet client’s regulatory needs and budgets
Prepare various environmental reports for all scopes of work, including, but not limited to, Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessments, Detailed Site Assessments, Spill Assessments and Remediations
Active stewardship of Vertex and client safety programs is expected
Responsible to build relationships within Vertex, with regulators and clients to effectively develop and manage projects within the environmental business unit
Mentor and coach junior environmental staff
LOCATION
This position will be based out of Fort St. John, British Columbia or Sherwood Park, Alberta
