What is the opportunity?

As a Manager for Life and Specialty Claims you will be responsible for the coaching and development of direct reports and other members of the claims teams in an effort to achieve business goals and individual career oriented goals, while enhancing technical and interpersonal competencies.

This role will be responsible for managing relationships with the reinsurer.

What will you do?

  • Build employee performance and engagement by leading, coaching, evaluating and developing staff
  • Drive the implementation of improvements that enhance the customer experience and promote Client First behaviors
  • Manage the operation of Life and Specialty Claims adjudication which includes; Disability, Critical Illness, Long Term Care, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Royal Recovery Assist, Health & Dental, Personal Accident claims and Life & Waiver claims
  • Serve as lead technician and subject matter expert on difficult, complex, and contentious cases, and on company practices and procedures for the multiple lines of business
  • Provide insight and direction on claims practices to respond to immerging loss trends
  • Review authority / denials / large losses in a timely fashion and provide feedback
  • What do you need to succeed?

    Must-have

  • Post-secondary education
  • Minimum 10 years claims experience, including at least 3 years of handling highly complex claims
  • Proven people management and leadership experience
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills necessary to work with fluctuating workloads, deadlines and priorities
  • Strong decision making, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Nice-to-have

  • Ability to effectively manage change
  • Fluency in both French and English, written and spoken, considered an asset
