New employees must provide documentation of a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St.

Mary’s General Hospital. No staff will be allowed to start work without clearance through Employee Health and Wellness.

Switchboard Operators answer and relay all incoming, outgoing and inter-departmental calls that need to be transmitted through the central switchboard system.

Those in this role greet visitors, respond to general enquiries, perform basic clerical functions, and complete / distribute various documents related to these functions.

What You'll Do

  • Operate "Meridian Option 61C" Switchboard
  • Direct visitors / patients / hospital personnel
  • Maintain Patient Index File
  • Page Hospital Codes
  • Maintain and operate hospital emergency and alarm system
  • Other duties as required
  • Position Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma
  • Average keyboard skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must have a positive work record and good attendance
  • Preference will be given to applicants with the following additional qualifications :

  • Previous switchboard experience
