Position Overview

Reports to the Director of Finance and assists in managing the day-to-day operation of the Finance Office at Trump Vancouver.

Ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and consistency of financial analysis and financial reporting, assets and liabilities reconciliation, working capital and cash flow control.

Oversees accounting associates on a daily basis, maintains a highly productive workflow and assignments.

Position Responsibilities and Functions

  • Train and supervise all accounting associates. Responsible for attendance and payroll. Determine work schedules and motivate associates to meet deadlines.
  • Train, coach, counsel, mentor, and discipline as necessary.

  • Develop a complete working knowledge of all accounting positions in order to be able to perform those duties in the event of turnover, absence, and / or vacation.
  • Participate in the associate performance review process, providing feedback as needed.
  • Ensure the profit and loss is accurate and statements are delivered to the appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Analyze financial data and assist in achieving and maintaining hotel’s financial objectives.
  • Investigate and critique variances and offer practical solutions to management.
  • Operationally responsible for accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, income audit, cash handling and disbursements, inventories, hotel assets and all additional accounting processes and financial reporting.
  • Master understanding of the chart of accounts, account mapping, job codes, statements configuration, and systems implementation.
  • Responsible for balancing and reconciliation of general ledger and financial statements.
  • Perform / oversee reconciliation of all bank accounts and balance sheets monthly. Prepare / review all backup to substantiate all balances.
  • Manage month end work flow and track through closing checklist.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, allocations, and prepaid entries. Post / review entries as necessary.
  • Ensure posting of budgets and forecasts to systems / daily reports as necessary, setup of department check books.
  • Maintain a strong accounting & operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations and profitability and manage business risks.
  • Ensure security of cash banks and preparation / accuracy of all cash deposits, paid outs, and change orders. Ensure banks are audited per policy.
  • Oversee / responsible for preparation, filing, and payment of all federal taxes timely, ensure tax rates used are current and proper amounts are collected and / or accrued;
  • maintain tax schedule.

  • Ensure that regular on-going communication occurs with associates to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance.
  • Monitor permits and licenses needed for daily operations, update as needed.
  • Create and implement standards of procedure to maintain effective operational procedures and high productivity and efficiency.
  • Oversee internal, external and regulatory audit processes, review audit issues and make corrections as necessary.
  • Attend weekly labor meeting to review productivity results with management and participate at other monthly / annual meetings.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Finance.
  • Position Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years Hotel Accounting experience at a supervisory / managerial level, a bachelor’s degree with an accounting / finance concentration.
  • Current enrolment in a recognized accounting program (CPA) would be an asset.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a demanding and hectic environment.
  • Strong systems knowledge : HMS, Micros and PC based systems, must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Comply with Trump Hotel Collection work rules and standards as well as internal standards of procedure. Willingness to listen, understand, empathize, and take appropriate action when concerns and issues are raised by co-workers and guests.
  • Must have the ability to supervise, teach and train in a multi-culture environment.
  • Ability to assimilate information from disparate sources and consider, adjust, or modify to meet the requirements of any given situations.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in an entrepreneurial, team-oriented environment with strong leadership and development skills preferably
  • Self-starter and can work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, profit & loss statements, operating budgets, forecasting and scheduling, and the reporting of financial data.
  • Skilled at establishing courses of action for self and others to ensure work is completed efficiently.
  • Able to motivate and guide others in accomplishing work objectives.
  • Attention to details, with excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to work in an entrepreneurial, team oriented environment with strong leadership and development skills.
