Your Opportunity :

The Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Harm Reduction Lead, Calgary Zone and the Safeworks Program Coordinator, this position is responsible for providing public health interventions within a harm reduction model.

The role includes STI / HIV & hepatitis counseling & testing, STI treatment, immunizations, distribution of safer sex and drug use supplies, and basic wound care.

Other duties consist of comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, delivery of harm reduction, sexual health and other health education presentations and referrals to other health & social services.

Safeworks programs are offered at community based fixed and satellite sites, and from the Safeworks Outreach Van.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-

being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.

You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

  • Required Qualifications :

    Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

    Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

    Additional Required Qualifications :

    Minimum two years’ experience in public health within the last four years.Create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues.

    Interact effectively with diverse populations including gender, cultural, sexual and socio-economic, particularly the homeless.

    Be self-directed and exercise independent decision making, Sound nursing judgment and critical thinking skills to respond quickly and appropriately to the changing priorities.

    Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with the interdisciplinary team.

    Exhibit strong time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment.

    Be proficient and knowledgeable with Microsoft Office programs and data management programs.

    Preferred Qualifications :

    Experience with Community / Client engagement.Demonstrates inclusive and trauma informed care. Knowledge and experience utilizing the principles and practice of harm reduction.

    Knowledge and understanding of blood borne pathogens and sexually transmitted infections.Experience developing and delivering health promotion and health education presentations.

    Experience in Mental Health & Addictions / working with marginalized populations such as individuals who use substances.
