Imagine being part of a dynamic team that designs innovative solutions for our diverse set of clients. Our Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning group provides comprehensive planning, design, and engineering services.
The Transportation EIT will work under close supervision of a Senior Engineer to develop skills in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering systems or products for a project.
The ideal candidate has the ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation including effective coordination of internal and external constituents, demonstrated experience on various planning and engineering projects, effective meeting facilitation skills and strong knowledge of regulatory requirements.
A Transportation EIT will perform a variety of tasks which may work on projects in Ottawa and Ontario involving the study, planning, and design of infrastructure such as complete streets, pathways, cycling facilities, rapid transit facilities, structures and other transportation systems.
In this role, will contribute to Stantec’s corridor plans and area master plans from a transportation perspective and support the delivery of transportation impact assessment studies for private sector developments and public sector clients.
Position will be full-time employment and workplace is in our Ottawa office.
Your Key Responsibilities
Assisting the Project Manager on a variety of tasks, including reviewing relevant policies, performing technical analysis, writing reports, and preparing presentations for clients.
Conducting site investigations to obtain an understanding of existing conditions, site constraints, and other challenges.
Providing multi-modal analysis in support of transportation studies and infrastructure design projects.
Performing traffic operations analysis using state of the art analysis software applications.
Preparing letters, technical memorandums, reports, exhibits, graphics, and drawings to clearly present information to internal and external groups, clients, and industry peers.
Assists in the preparation of engineering project documents, client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
Attends and assists in client / contractor / stakeholder meetings to gain a better understanding of client’s goals.
Utilizes relevant software programs to prepare exhibits and complex working drawings. Continues to develop skills using software programs for design and / or drafting.
Assisting on major transit / transportation studies, involving the need and justification for new transportation projects, analysis of alternatives, demand forecasting, transportation system / network planning and operations, transportation master plans, new mobility choices such as bike share or connected vehicles, and sustainable transportation.
Responsible for conducting and assisting transportation planning and traffic analyses
Obtains traffic, GIS and land use data, prepares technical reports, performs calculations, and conducts various transportation studies.
Assists with the preparation of proposals, project reporting and other marketing endeavors.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
Experience working on engineering and planning projects.
Experience using MS Excel / Access as well as modeling packages such as Emme, VISUM, TransCad, Synchro, Aimsun or VISSIM.
Knowledge and experience using GIS.
Knowledge of provincial and municipal legal requirements, and design / planning procedures in relevant jurisdictions.
Good technical writing skills; capable of creating reports, letters and specifications as well as oral communication.
Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team
Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Planning, Engineering or related field. Prefer P.Eng. or RPP Certification. Minimum of 2 years of experience.
Typical office environment working with computers. Some travel may be required, such as delivering plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients or to attend meetings.
May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and / or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
