The Registered Dietitian provides optimal nutritional care to patients / residents through nutritional assessment, development and implementation of care plans and through the education of patients and caregivers.

All duties are performed in accordance with the Mission and Values of Providence Healthcare.


  • Provides a high standard of nutritional care for patients / residents through nutritional assessment, formulation of goals and recommendations, implementation and evaluation of care plans;
  • Documents accurately according to Charting guidelines;
  • Actively participates as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team. Refers to other health care professionals, as appropriate;
  • Monitors patients’ / residents’ nutritional status, updates written records, and communicates effectively with the inter-disciplinary team members;
  • Uses Computrition Diet Office Module to implement nutrition care plans. Uses computerized menu application software proficiently;
  • Liaises with the Nutrition and Food Services Manager / Supervisors / Clerks regarding nutrition related concerns;
  • Liaises with the Unit Patient Care Manager as appropriate;
  • Provides nutrition education / counseling to patients and caregivers;
  • Contributes to the education of Dietetic Interns and other students;
  • Responsible for effective and efficient use of nutritional supplements. Reviews and updates nutritional supplement formulary as necessary;
  • Participates in menu development and evaluation of new products.
  • Records workload measurement statistics.

  • Bachelor level qualifications in Food and Nutrition or Home Economics or equivalent;
  • Dietetic Internship as recognized by the Dietitians of Canada;
  • Active membership in College of Dietitians of Ontario (C.D.O.);
  • Minimum 1 - 2 years’ experience;
  • Sound knowledge and experience in clinical nutrition practice in a health care environment as related to patients who have deficits of neurogenic origin;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Knowledge of computer applications;
  • Very good attendance record;
  • Good performance record.
