Position will provide product / application technical and engineering support to the wood, steel and concrete market segments.
Position will be required to develop & maintain an effective specification program, maintain technical support documents and conduct product / application testing within the field.
The project engineer reports to the Director of Marketing and supports sales and marketing initiatives.
Provide technical / engineering support to our customers, sales teams and customer service areas on commercial and residential products / applications.
Oversee and manage the specification program that will increase our presence in the engineering and architect community.
This will require calls and visits to Structural Engineers and major Architects to increase product awareness and specification opportunities.
Develop and maintain effective communication strategies to increase our brand awareness within the technical fields.
Maintain our technical resources. This includes our engineering support documents, testing equipment, and training material.
Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of codes and regulations, testing methods, and end user applications.
Develop, plan and maintain technical training of distributors, end users and trade schools.
Technical Marketing / Sales
Collaborate and work with sales department to develop technical sales advantages by understanding our competition from a technical standpoint.
Provide direction to marketing department on trends, code issues, and other technical issues as it relates to our products.
The incumbent will need to provide detailed data on products and markets. This will require him / her to be fully proficient in presenting ideas and proposals in written and oral form, to senior levels of management, customers, suppliers and intercompany partners.
Join relevant trade and technical organizations to stay abreast of developments in the industry and to ensure ITW has voice in changes in the industry.
Develop and maintain a quality assurance system for our products.
New Product Development
As required, work with sales and marketing on developing new products by providing insights and technical expertise based on market trends, codes or technical information that will assist with the NPD process and redesign or modification of existing products.
Identifying and project map the size and opportunities of the directly addressable market for our commercial 80 products.
Building Operation :
Collaborate on the building operations and environmental reporting to constitutional entities.
Job Requirements :
Post-Secondary degree in Engineering and / or Business with technical background. 0 to 4 years experience in industry with related technical exposure.
Construction industry preferred
Computer proficient with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook. Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
Results driven with ability to manage multiple priorities with highly effective follow through skills. Proactive; motivational.
Project Management & Organizational skills; professional networking / relationship building skills; ability to present to small informal groups as well as large groups; technical aptitude.
Work Environment :
The Technical Field Support Specialist performs the duties of this position within a variety of locations including, but not limited to : CPC offices, testing areas, warehouses, trade schools, construction sites and distributor locations.
The incumbent is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, climate variances and moving mechanical equipment typically found in warehouses and construction sites.
The noise level in the work environment (office) is usually low, but may be higher when exposed to warehouses and job sites.
Personal protective equipment is required when in the warehouse or on job sites.
Physical Demands :
The position of Project Engineer incurs minimal to moderate physical stress, discomfort or risk of accident or ill-health.
Duties can require concentrated levels of focus and attention. This position involves some travel. The incumbent must be technically knowledgeable on the ITW portfolio of products.
