Position Overview A Load Desk Operator (LDO) is a member of the System Control Centre (SCC) Operating team, focused primarily on providing support for regular and emergency distribution work.
The LDO’s primary responsibility is to monitor, control and support the work on a portion of FortisBC’s power system to ensure the safe and reliable supply of power to its customers.
The position requires the incumbent to work shifts in alignment with operational needs outside of the continuous cycle of operations.
The position is considered entry level for the System Control Centre Operating team. Responsibilities
Monitor, control and operate the distribution system.
Serve as Operating Authority of the distribution system.
Coordinate duties in an expedient manner with the System Control Centre Operating team to restore the distribution system when disturbances are experienced.
Record system trouble calls, advise field standby personnel and provide updated information related to distribution outages.
Maintain a thorough familiarity with distribution system operating procedures, distribution field equipment and distribution contingency plans.
Assist in the training of other operators.
5 years’ experience working in a utility environment.
Diploma in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology.
Electrical trade experience working with distribution system operations preferred.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and perform in a high stress environment.
Ability to deal courteously with members of the public via telephone and work cooperatively with fellow employees.
Proven telephone, computer and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
Additional Information Schedule as per LDO Memorandum of Agreement and will include day and afternoon shifts. To meet future operational requirements, this position may be transitioned to a 24 / 7 continuous operation.
