A Principal Pipeline Engineer at BMT Canada will work as a senior member of the APS technical and management team :

  • Executing and directing technical projects
  • Providing guidance and mentoring to junior staff
  • Write, review and contribute to project reports
  • Manage and contribute to multiple projects simultaneously
  • Be a technical leader for pipeline and / or pressure vessels and piping design and integrity assessment considering pressure, geotechnical and thermal loading
  • Have experience and familiarity with relevant Canadian pipeline and energy sector standards and codes of practice to lead project teams in code compliance review and assessments.
  • Support project and business management
  • Identify opportunities for technology and staff improvement
  • Support recruitment of additional staff
  • Review, discuss and refer business opportunities to appropriate business units within APS (i.e. Structural Integrity, Welding, Materials, Software & Instrumentation, Design & Construction)
  • Basic Qualifications

  • Experience within the North American Energy Pipeline and / or Industrial Plant Service sector
  • Over 15 years of related engineering experience
  • Proven engineering skills and a valid Professional Engineering licence
  • Post-Graduate degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Civil Engineering
  • In depth knowledge of engineering applied to the energy sector Leadership and management experienceExperience working in a consulting environmentProven track record leading client relationships and business promotion / salesA track record for the solution of energy sector (pipe and / or plant) engineering design and / or assessment tasks
  • In depth subject matter expertise related to several of design, fitness for service assessment (i.e. cracking, corrosion, weld fault, geohazard, hydrotechnical hazard assessment), materials, welding, forensic investigation
  • Industry recognition as a subject matter expert in energy sector
  • Expertise and industrial track record related to numerical modelling (e.g. finite element modelling, computational fluid dynamics)
  • Preferred Experience / Qualifications

  • Experience working with industry standards CSA Z662, API 579, API 1104, BS 7910, ASME PVC, ASME B31 series
  • Client facing experience and excellent presentation skills
  • Proven ability working in a small team environment
  • Strong technical report and proposal writing track record
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Current capabilities working with numerical simulation (e.g., finite element modelling, computational fluid dynamics)
  • Knowledge IMP (Integrity Management Program Development)
  • Knowledge of in line inspection tools, reporting and program development
  • Knowledge related to reliability and risk assessment
