Trussle was founded by its CEO, Ishaan Malhi, whose own frustration with the mortgage experience led him to believe there must be a better way.

Mortgage market : The UK mortgage market is worth more than £1.3 trillion, across 11.1 million mortgages, making it the largest in Europe.

Each year 1.25m mortgages or £250Bn in value are originated each year, of which 75% are arranged by a broker. There are approximately 12,000 mortgage brokers in the market today.

About the role - Head of Data and Insights Technology is at the heart of Trussle’s business, and data powers each decision we make and each algorithm we build to improve the mortgage experience for our customers.

As Head of Data and Insights, you will lead all facets of data across the collection, streaming, reporting, and machine learning.

What will you be doing

  • Recruiting and supporting the team, ensuring ongoing and transparent feedback and helping establish a high performance culture
  • Defining a clear mission and vision for the data function as we build up the data science pyramid of needs from collection to machine learning
  • Engaging with stakeholders across the business to ensure their data and reporting requirements are captured and managed on the data roadmap
  • Driving best practices by bringing new tools, technologies and processes to the team and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
  • Facilitating architectural discussions around optimising analyst workflows and getting to a self-service reporting product for stakeholders and non-technical business analysts
  • Establishing controls and workflows to improve data quality and build pipelines for data science
  • About you

  • A strong data background, with ability to curate technical discussions across all levels of the data hierarchy of needs
  • Experience with managing people and reducing cross-team challenges, especially where the roles of analysts are concerned
  • Comfort with managing multiple business stakeholders and setting clear deliverable outcomes
  • Experience with high performance cross-functional product organisations and understanding of how to drive this culture across teams
  • Passion for developing people and managing relationships as well as individual career paths
  • Confident and influential communicator who can articulate data objectives just as clearly to the executive team as to engineering teams
  • Ability to keep up-to-date with the latest industry trends and attend occasional meetups and conferences
  • Understanding the importance of building a strong employer brand, especially when it comes to recruiting directly out of universities, accelerators, and the data community
  • Fluent with git and the principles of good source control and release workflows
  • Familiar with AWS technologies as they relate to data storage and transfer (e.g. Redshift, Aurora, Step, kinesis, lambda)
  • Confident with at least one programming language besides SQL variants (e.g. python, Scala, Go, javascript)Interested and aware of data talent hubs across Continental Europe, and the potential of opening a data team office in a city there
