Description & Details Hospice Toronto's Complementary Therapy Volunteers current certification and membership in good standing with the association and / or regulating body that applies to the therapy that they will practice as a volunteer Additional Information Completion of the comprehensive 35+ hour Palliative Care Core Hospice Volunteer training program is mandatory before beginning to work with hospice clients.
The training program includes topics such as Communication Skills, Family Dynamics, Cultural Competency, Understanding Boundaries and the Role of the Volunteer, Hands-
on Care Skills, Grief and Bereavement etc. Volunteers must complete 100% of the training program before being matched with a client.
An in-person interview, and following this, permission to submit a Vulnerable Persons Police Check request on your behalf is also required.

Upcoming Palliative Care Core Hospice Volunteer Training :
The next 35+ hour Palliative Care Core Hospice Volunteer training program for all In-home Hospice, Complementary Therapy and future Residential volunteers will be starting in January 2019 and will be taking place on ALL of the dates below (attendance at all 9 sessions is required) :
6 Thursday evenings from 5 : 45pm to 9 : 15pm on January 24 and 31, February 7, 14, 21, and 28
3 Saturdays from 9 : 30am to 4 : 00pm on February 9, 23, and March 2
Depending on each applicant’s previous experience, comfort level, and training related to supporting vulnerable client groups, once they have completed the core hospice training program, those who are interested in supporting our Journey Home Hospice Residence program, are then eligible to apply for this enhanced volunteer role.
Completion of an additional Enhanced Residential Hospice training program is required. This additional cross-training then allows volunteers to be utilized in either program, based on the area of greatest client need.
Volunteering at Hospice Toronto can be a demanding and challenging opportunity, yet a very rewarding and fulfilling one that allows our clients to be cared for and die at home with dignity and support.
