Location : Calgary / Edmonton, Alberta

Job Overview :

As a Health & Safety Business Partner, reporting to the Director, Health & Safety Western Canada, you will work with leaders and their teams directly to define and implement health and safety initiatives that are aligned with business plans.

This role focuses primarily on Strategy (building sustainable safety cultures), Leadership Development (increasing the capabilities of front-line leaders and safety committees), and Regulatory Compliance (managing the end-to-end processes for compliance orders and interface with regulatory authorities).

  • The successful candidate must be based out of Calgary or Edmonton.
  • Responsibilities :

    The candidate will be responsible for carrying out the following responsibilities :

    Analyze and interpret workplace injury data and work with facility management to identify areas of unacceptable risk and incorporate corrective measures into the site-specific action plan.

    Actively promote health and safety critical priorities and collaborate with the client group to identify ways to create and / or develop sustainable safety cultures.

    Conduct internal health and safety audits and review facility corrective action plans to ensure that identified risks are eliminated and / or controlled.

    Prepare and support facility management in external COR audits and interpret external audit findings to assist in the development of continuous improvement plansSupport facility management in executing and maintaining Corporate compliance initiativesContinuously work with front-line leaders to improve their competency relating to occupational health and safety including company policies, standards, best practices and the importance of communication.

    Coach and train front-line leaders on how to identify unsafe behaviours, and how to recognize, assess and control hazards.

    Coach, educate and train the Joint Health and Safety Committees as required, and in accordance with Company and legislated standards.

    Provide powered lift truck train-the-trainer sessions to certify peer trainers in the retail stores.Support facility management with provincial regulatory activities and initiatives to ensure favourable outcomes.

    Provide advice, guidance and coaching on matters related to all areas of health and safety.

    Professional Competencies :

    5 to 7 years progressive experience with demonstrated knowledge in the area of occupational health and safety management practices (i.

    e. post-secondary degree or field experience, or combination of both)Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) or post graduate OH&S university / college degree preferredSound knowledge of Federal and Provincial Occupational Health & Safety and Workers’ Compensation Acts and RegulationsHighly effective and persuasive personality, be a team player and leader and an excellent facilitator of action planningWell organized and able to handle multiple complex and competing prioritiesSelf-motivated and results orientatedExcellent relationship management skillsExcellent oral and written communication skillsProficiency with MS Office applicationsValid provincial driver’s license that meets the requirements of the Company’s Business Tool Car ProgramAbility to travel with overnight stays during the work weekAbility to provide 24 / 7 service to the business for the purposes of managing critical injury situations and / or managing regulatory stop work situations that result in an operational disruption to the businessExperience in a retail environment is an assetA positive attitude, a desire to learn, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get work done, either independently or as part of a team.
